Now I thought I stayed pretty up on stuff . But I just read about the “World Vintage Skeet Championsips” with the 19th year being last year . After this covid19 bologna runs its course (if I’m still upright) I’m gonna have to look into this a bit more . It’s no great secret I like skeet far more than sporting clays .

I see our own Paul Kupferberg took the 28 ga. Trophy in 2012 for vintage hammer 28 gauge.

I’d been wanting to send a VH 12 gauge 2 frame to Kolar and have it tubed , but had always come up with reasons not to . Now I just might have a good reason to have it done .

On a side note , when I went to Christmas Hill in January or February for the Pheasent shoot one of the fellows there had one of those CZ 12 gauge 30” hammer guns . No I didn’t fire it , but for a utilitarian usable don’t care if I beat it up gun I’d say it was a hit !

Let’s see how the covid19 BS and life in general goes . I might try making that trip myself . Like to do it by air but I’m not flying and taking four or five shotguns . I see I don’t need to renew my NSSA membership to compete which is a good thing . Although I’ve still got my card around here somewhere .

If you are a life member, all you need is your number. Cards are passe in the computer world. If you are a member of NSSA or NSCA, you can shoot in either one or both without "joining" the other. A life member of either organization can shoot either type of shoot forever and never renew anything. In theory, I have an NSSA number and a NSCA number, but either one will get me into a shoot.

But if you give them your number regardless of whether you're a life member or not targest shot at this event go in your lifetime total if things like that matter to a person .

I've got a friend Fairfax R&G that is the all time target leader but he shoots about 12,000 registered birds a year on a slow year he's also 80+ and been doing this most likely 60+ years .

That was most certainly years ago most shooters now myself included would have a cow over the little shell stands they saw fit to put at each station back then .

I have a Kolar gun and have shot Kolar tubes for 35 years.
But if I was going to tube a gun today it would have to be Briley’s here is why.
Briley will custom make full length fitted tubes same as Kolar.
It is way easier to play with chokes with the Briley tubes, with Kolar’s the outside diameter of the choke is fit to your bore so if you want different chokes then what came with it you need to send it back to Kolar.
With Briley the chokes are internal threads, you can simply buy what you want and they send it to you. You can even exchange chokes with Briley’s for just shipping.

The shell box stands were very convenient for the fellows and gals who shot Skeet in their shirtsleeves and didn't have shooting jackets or vests with pockets.

Maybe so but buy a shell pouch and belt . Those stands would get in my way when I positioned on the stations . And while that sounds a bit anal it's true I find anything in front on me when I'm shooting to make me feel like somethings in the way . Same thing when they used to put those little stands at the 16 yard line in trap . And part of the game is shooting when you're comfortable .

Usually when ever I've had a gun tubes I had Kolar include skeet and just a hair tighter for each tube .And that's about all a tubed gun of mine will be used for , You are quite correct in your opinion I just prefer to stick with Kolar they were always good to me with any problems that may have arisen . Not to say Briley wouldn't be as well , but for skeet tubes I have a brand loyalty :whistle:

Well, I'm glad to say we can't go back and change it. They add a bit of nostalgia to these shotgun games. Skeet sure has come a long way.

Scott has correctly mentioned that Kolar screw chokes are not convenient or even acceptable for sporting clays because you almost have to remove the tube to change the choke, unless they have changed something. Craig, can you change from skeet to "tight skeet" while the tubes are in the gun, easily?

Dunno never tried ! Don’t really care for that matter . Tight skeet would be for doubles at all stations or shoot offs anyway .

The other thing to consider is I do not think you can use a tubed gun in the small bore events in Vintage Skeet.

Scott, tubes are allowed according to the 2019 program. Of course, it violates the theme of the shoot. I believe it only took one year for tubes to be outlawed in trophy events at the Southern Side by Side. The 2020 program is on powdercreek.com under "events". Tubes are still allowed except in 16 gauge where an actual 16 gauge gun must be used.
