One great gun for someone who just wants to own and shoot one Parker. Big two frame with 1 1/2 frame stock, judging by the buttplate. It should be one smooth swinging gun. Did Parker stop using the standard #2 buttplate in the twenties?

Nice V grade! Perfect dimensions for me too, tho too much drop for most folks. Were I looking for another 30" F/F it would be gone as we speak. It's a twin to my 26" VH12.

I guess I'm more in the market than I thought. Seller is a real character. I'll let you all know what it's like here soon....a bit steep on the price but the SG guns are soo nice!

Autumn, the buttplate is the one usually used on a #1 1/2 frame gun. The #2 frame buttplate is the one with the retriever. Of course, we don't see a lot of #2 frame guns that late, so maybe the #1 1/2 style buttplate was used. I sure am glad one of us got that great gun. Congratulations, Richard. The condition of this gun is astounding.

Rich, I really can't take the credit on that one. Dean called me about the gun and when he said he wasn't in the market for another 12 I told him that I would throw it up on our site so that's how that happened. But I'm real happy you grabbed it Rich. Let us all know if it's as good as it look's when you recieve it.

I think it will look just fine. It's v likely a train wreck internally from the looks of the screw slots but I'll dismantle it for a cleaning before I ever shoot it. I wouldn't doubt it's never been apart. I think there's a v v small crack behind the top tang also; you can see it in the pics. We'll see about that when it arrives.

No new Parkers but since I have been very, very good this year:whistle: I'm trying to adopt a Colt Match Target. It will make a nice stocking stuffer and a good companion to a tricked out Ruger 10/22. Those rascally rabbits will be in for it now.:rotf:

I took your advice, just when you think ya have everything!....just perchased the VHE 16ga. 28" and 32" two barrel set from cabela's that has been so over-priced till today!!! On my regular sweep I see that the price was reduced !!! wow from 7999.00 down to 4999.00...its mine! I have been watching that gun now since it was listed...starting price several months ago was 9999.00 Never thought it would sell at 1/2 of its starting price. But plate does not look correct to me, no widdows peak, probably remington era? Probably been replaced at some point?, maybe when the second set of barrels were added? Thats the only thing that looks wrong to me. The gun looks to be in very good original condition. It will make a great grouse and Kansas wild bird gun with them flag pole lenth 32" barrels choked F/F Will get a letter on this one! Maybe see who ordered a gun like this? Those rascally rabbits will be in for it now.:rotf: I have my late father's Colt collection- he was more into varmint hunting (.220 Swift M54 SG) and handguns than shotguns, whereas my maternal grandfather shot his Parkers and used a rather plain-Jane M1894 .30WCF for everything from woodchucks to deer.

But in 1939 Dad bought a Colt Match Target Woodsman- heavy barrel, Elianson sights and the older "elephant eared" checkered walnut grips- box, cleaning rod and spare 10 rd. magazine- have no idea what he paid for it, back then you could buy or sell a handgun pretty much "at will"- It came to me before he passed on, and it is a flat out "Dinger"> I shot it for years in our Club's Winter Indoor pistol league-also my Python 6" Colt, but with .38 Wadcutters-

The only other .22 Handgun I have "coveted"- belongs to a HS buddy- when he turned 21 in 1962, his Dad gave him a S&W K-22 with 6" barrel, which he still has. Back then you had to be 21 or older to own a handgun and you had a green card verifying that- BUT it was not a CCW. We killed thousands of rats with our .22's in my boyhood, first with our rifles, after we were "of age" also with the .22 handguns.

Probably shooting that sweet Colt Match Target helped me acclimate to the Colt 1911-A-1 .45ACP that I carried as a TO weapon in the USMC. I still prefer the "wheelguns" even the 1861 Colt .38 cap and baller- One of a few advantages of a wheelgun for a home defense weapon, assuming you have proper training and practice with it- NO springs are under tension until you either cock the hammer, or if it is a double actioned model, pull the trigger. But the great old 1911-A-1 is still a "battle tested" workhorse of a handgun, like anything the old Master John Browning designed-

I just picked up the 30" SG VH12 that started this thread this afternoon and all I can say is "Oh My!". It is gorgeous. It's much nicer than shown in the pictures. Stock finish is essentially 100%. Numerous minor handling marks but not a single bit of wear or abrasion through the finish, not even on the checkering on either the wrist or forend or along the edges of the stock cheeks that usually take a beating. The checkering isn't even worn. Case colors are approx 80% and nearly if not original intensity and with a few minor marks is all. Barrel blue is 90%+ with no real wear, just minor scratches here and there, and still nice thick and dark blue. Impressive. Lever is still to the right and gun locks up tight as a safe, even with the forend off. Butt plate shows barely any wear. Nice wood too, with quite a bit of flame and curl and is more like the usual G-grade than a V. I haven't had a nicer V grade for sure. Lots of thickness at the muzzles. Bores look as shiney as new with not a single spot or ding or scratch. Screws seem untouched other than maybe having been tightened a time or two on the floorplate. Whoever owned it rarely hunted with it if at all; there's only minor case wear on the floorplate. Trigger guard blue is maybe 60% with some markings but no real wear like it would have from being hunted with. Even the lower trigger tang has about half of the original blue. The previous owner seems to have oiled it every day of it's life as every screw is packed full of dried oil as is much of the engraving;even the firing pin holes were packed with dried out oil. Trigger pulls are a tad heavy at 6# and 7#. I just hope I don't find problem wood soaked with oil when I dismantle it to inspect and clean it. This is one sweet, totally unmolested Parker that has been shot very very little, and... it fits me perfectly. I am in love!

Took it out and shot it today. Finish is not as original as I had thought at first. In the daylight I can see that there is a coat of very nicely done finish over the original and that there was some areas worn through the original. The stock cheek edges are darkened where they were worn under the newer finish. The newer finish was very nicely done and quite some time ago as it shows very slight cracks itself in a couple of places. Sure shoots nice too!
