Hay all. I'm looking for a replacement top rib for my o frame parker 20ga. The rib should measure 26 3/8 inch long .530 at the breech and .350 at the muzzle. The dolls head makes up the rest to give a 28 inch barrel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Fred

I found a Rib with the Help of Edgar Spencer that man is Ok in my book . Thanks Again Edgar!

The top rib is made of two separate pieces. The doll's head rib extension is roughly 2.25" long and the barrels are measured from the breech (excluding the doll's head) to the muzzle.

Just buying a used takeoff rib and hoping it will be successfully installed on your gun and have it look right and salvage the matting is a big ask. Just to forewarn you. Every set of barrels was individually hand assembled and profiled.

The rib for a 28" barrel is 25 29/32" as the rib extension is 2 3/32". Can't figure out where you came up with 26 3/8".

Edgar, I came up with that measurement with my tape measure and my machinist calipers. How many of these old SXS have you restored I've worked on a few now and they are all a little different. Thanks

Brian, If I can find a take off rib from a small frame gun ( o or 1 frame) I will be the one hand assembling and profiling. So that being said know anyone with a Top rib. Thanks

I was wiping guns down last night anyway, so it was no trouble. I measured 15 parkers and the rib extension on every one was 2 and 3/32". These ran the gamut from 24" to 30", but I didn't measure the actual ribs, because none of the barrels are off length. Best source might be Kirk Merrington. He may have the odd blown barrel. Are you looking for any particular barrel steel inscription?
I couldn't count the number of guns Ive restored, I'm 72 and been playing with them since I was 12. I have not, however, taken barrels apart with the intention of reassembling them.

Edgar, I went to my shop this morning and you were right 2 3/32 on the rib extension. But I do not need a rib extension I need a full Top rib or a section of rib as long as its over 26 3/8" long .530 toward the breech .350 at the muzzle.
Is Mr. Merrington a member here I will look through the roster for him. Thanks for the feed back on my quest I appreciate it greatly. Thanks Fred:)

So Fred I'm guessing, but you are dealing with cut barrels, so why bother unless it has family history?

I'm curious Fred, how you came by a PGCA roster without being a PGCA Member ?

Dean he might have meant the list of forum members.
I think it would be easier to find another set of barrels. You might call Batchelder's in Grand Rapids MI.

Sounds like quite an endeavor Fred. I have been racking my brain and looking thru my old files for the email of a guy who is always buying old guns, parts, barrels, etc--perhaps he may have what you need. I'll keep looki ng

You could also try Phillip Cote from Double Gun Journal. He might have a barrel set or rib.

Well, I find old Parkers that have been neglected and need restoration. The reason I'm going to sleeve, Rib and reblue this set of barrels is they are from an O frame G grade gun and when I'm finished I will have a two barrel set 20 and 28ga. exhibition English walnut stocked and like new metalwork. Thank you

Hallelujah!!! Kirk had a rib so the search is over. Thank you Edgar for pointing me in Mr. Merrington direction.

Sounds like a worthy endeavor Fred, are you doing a lot of the work yourself?
WAs just going to make a phone call to see about finding a rib--glad you found one.
In regards to Edgar, he reminds me of the Dos Equis man--the most interesting man in the world.
Post some pictures of your project as you go along.

If by chance that rib does not work out, let me know. I have a box full of a few dozen Parker ribs of varying types. Including some new old stock factory ribs.
