I’m looking at a Lefever with 28” barrels advertised as having permanent Briley chokes. Anyone have any experience with this? I had always heard choke tubes in Damascus barrels was not a good idea.

Briley does do FIXED choke inserts.
I do not know the details of what the process involves. If it is a slip fitted/soft soldered sleeve. Or if it is a threaded time that is just dressed off with no way to remove it.
I have not physically seen a barrel set with them in them, and I have not inquired far enough to know more about them.

Kirk,
I would be curious to know what the muzzle looks like on the Lefever you reference.

I’ve asked the seller for a picture of the muzzle, waiting to hear back.

The screw chokes on the CSMC RBL have no visible means of extracting them. As such, there are no visible groves or slots. The removal tool is simply a tapered plug which so far has worked fine, but I don't think it would work well on a set of rusted chokes

My understanding is that Briley's typically will not do choke tubes on Damascus guns. If they did install permanent chokes, they would be soldered in. Also, if Briley's did the work, I wouldn't be afraid of the gun.
Easy enough to call them to be sure.

I spoke to a friend who has a M 21 that Briley's put a permanent choke in, he thinks they epoxied it in. That would make sense, I guess.
