Advice on removing scratches on Damascus appreciated. Parker GH. I would like to clean up the barrels, not redo them. Thanks.

I don't think it would be possible without a file and refinish .looks as if someone has already tried

If you dont want to refinish, then the only option is to live with it.

I agree with Brian, and I wouldn't loose any sleep thinking about it either. The scratch would barely impact the value.

Thank you for your replies. Now a second question. Is there any method that I can use to eliminate the bright spot where the previous owner tried to polish out the scratch? The patina on the barrels is a brownish hue and I would like to get that back. Has anyone tried the spot application of Hydrogen peroxide and vinegar? I use this mixture in gun parts cleaning but have not on Damascus. Thoughts?

NO.
And keep vinegar away from your barrels completely!

Maybe contact Breck Gorman on this site , he would be my pick for advise on refinishing barrels as he is doing some beautiful work .

Bachelder's did a great job of refinishing my Laminated Steel barrels. They actually came out a little more plum color than the pictures show, but you get the idea.
