Has this program been canceled? No mention in the PP this issue, also has the earliest latest feature been eliminated?

Those programs have not been discontinued and are alive and well. I believe Dean decided not to post those in every issue

That’s right Mills - I include the Doubles listing with the Spring Issue after the hunting seasons are over.

Continue to submit your incredible feats of game-shooting prowess to Mary Bowes.

I just submitted to Mary my amazing feat of prowess of killing two turkeys with one shot this spring in Vermont with my DH 12 ga F/F.

I have a friend ( former NFL head coach) who did that here in Tennessee and his reward was a ticket and embarrassing newspaper article, wrong kind of pen/pin😬.

And here in Missouri we don't mention a turkey double until the statute of limitations runs its course.

For a doubles pin Dean, don't the birds have to be in the air??:nono::):):)

Well, let’s let the judges rule on this.
It was totally legal and not even considered unethical by Vt. standards.

In the spring turkey hunt it is customary to shoot turkeys on the ground.

Majority rules unless there is a PGCA committee on qualifications for a Doubles Pin.

Personally, either way is okay with me.

You should absolutely get the doubles pin...and we should be able to continue to tease you.

Doubles on rabbits , squirrels , deer and turkey are usually a little difficult to get in the air like upland birds or waterfowl . So I don’t see why two gobble birds on the ground wouldn’t be acceptable . Same for a pair of deer I killed ambling by me one day with a Grade 2 top lever 10 gauge and handloaded 0 buck .

My, my what will you do now to feel useful in that you have passed the torch of editorship on. Thanks for all your hard work on the PP.

The slow motion Major League Baseball replay was confirmed by NY that both birds did in fact have both feet off the ground for a millisecond when hit by the concussion before the load of shot, thus they were "in flight." The ruling on the field that a pin should be awarded is confirmed.

I earned my pin on November 26, 2017. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've not seen the list published since then and have yet to see my name in print :crying:! I even complained to Dean once to no avail .

The best double I ever witnessed was at a pigeon shoot. Bird gets up, is missed with both shots, lands completely unharmed a few yards past the boxes. Shooter calls for the next bird, both birds get up together, line up for an instant right at the shot.
BAM!, two birds down for the count with a single shot! Trapper yells over to the bird boys - "Pick up 5!"

Way I understand it double has to be a game bird. That’s why I never reported a Crow Double. Game or no it’s a sporty shot.

Was trying to be like Phil with it pinned to the back of my vest ...I lost three pins first day out ...two were in the game bag ,the double pin was not ....phil later told me he uses crazy glue on the clasp :banghead:

Uh, oh, a divergence into what is a double(:corn:). Wouldn't a double include shooting two birds, simultaneously, in the air...with intent (in other words, either with one or two shots, but knowing that's what the shooter is trying to do)? I've shot two (and even three) quail on the covey rise with one shot, but for me a double is when I shoot two that I've aimed (pointed) at and intended to shoot. I've had three doubles on turkeys, but never by intention (congratulations to Dean!!) -- always dumb luck on my part (which, now that I think of it, constitutes most of my successful shots!)

But, hey, two at a time, on the ground or in the air, is an achievement worth recognition.

Hitting two targets with one shot is what's known as a Dutch Double. Still a double.

To me a dutch double means misses with both barrels

If they gave pins for those I wouldn't be able to pick up my vest :rotf:

PGCA can't afford me if they give pins for that
