might it "falls outside of the last Parker made" because it was a repro? I don't know the serial number range on them-

but yes an exercise in very creative writing -

interesting mix, Meriden on the one rib, but PARKER no bros on the floor. and for the work in the stock, i am surprised to see the wood so proud on one side of the top tang and not one the other side

and having Purdey barrels fit to it must have cost some pocket change

In the 'way back' of my memory, I seem to recall a conversation about 're-numbering a firearm serial number, and somehow Tony also comes to mind. COB has such a piece, as I recall, and might be able to comment.
Tony would certainly have the skill to execute such a piece.

Note the Runge signature on the dolls head of the floorplate.

The gun and barrel set number 1 looks pretty legit to me for very late manufacture. Or maybe even finished from parts after production wound down. Possibly an upgrade of some sort.

My guess is made up from left over parts, judging by the not-so-good fit of the doll’s head of barrel set #1.

Beautiful gun, except the serial number on the tang looks ham handed compared to the balance of engraving.

I wonder if Chuck noticed the Runge signature? He didn't mention it. Many years ago, a wonderful BHE 20 gauge was floating around NY and PA with a 250,000 plus serial number. Elmira Arms was hawking it for years without a buyer.

The gun belongs to me and it is an upgrade. IIRC Bill thought he knew who did it. The second set of barrels do indeed come from James Purdey and while at the Southern one year Douglas Tate looked at them and they are legit and if requested today would be more expensive than the gun itself.

The story (and it is just a story) goes that the original owner was a good client of Purdey and they made the second set of barrels for him.

All in all it's a nice gun but one that I don't shoot often enough to merit keeping it.

When I saw this post, I was reminded of a Chuck story. About 10 years ago I was looking for a 21 20 gauge and happened to call him. Now I didn't know him and he didn't know me. He had a 26" skeet 1936 and said " I'll send it up and if you like it send me a check". I ran right to the PO and sent a check First Class so he would be sure to get it before I got the gun. Gun was sweet. Price was sweet. WHO DOES THAT THESE DAYS ? Stand up guy. Would like to meet him and shake his hand.... Steve
