One of Dad's old friends gave this to him years ago. It needs some work, but I am hoping to get it going at some point for quail hunting around the place.

Pretty cool, Mills. That would look great fixed up and painted. You could pull it around with a small tractor or 4 wheeler.

The one thing Dad did do to it is convert it from mule drawn to vehicle drawn. I figure even if people don't ride in it, it will be good for dogs, water and stuff.

Mules would be pretty neat, but would be a lot more work

I have a pal that does a wagon like that, it carries extra dogs, and is used as a chuckwagon for field lunches and dinners. They pull it with a Kawasaki Mule.

Mark, I was thinking just that.

Being pulled by a vehicle would be my last choice. I would much prefer to have a UTV over a vehicle. It's a great project for you and your son to work on. Take your time and get it just right, then give me a call for the maiden voyage :) Please !

Would love a mule but that would be extremely expensive. We have some old jeeps

Jeep, would be great. Crawler gears in jeeps are awesome for this type of application.

Oh come on Mills. Mules for sure, the four legged type not Kawasaki. Nothing beats the quiet pace of a team; creaking leather harness, the plod of hooves, an occasional snort, and perhaps a fart or two. I know, I had a molly mule that tooted with every step it seemed. Sweet music compared to that of a four stroke engine. You can even hear the dog bells while under way. Besides, those old Parkers might thank you for taking them back to a time where they belong.

Great project and really neat that it is still in the family and kept over the years. Our old rubber tire wagon was left out to rot, really a shame. I was the little kid who picked the down row run over by the wagon and would throw the ears of corn in the wagon which was pulled by a small mule named Lucy. Good times, great that you still have that one.

That was the first job I had out of highschool was driving a mule drawn carriage for a quail plantation . The left mule was around 1000lbs and the right mule was about 1500lbs. needless to say the carriage always wanted to steer to the right lol . We never had one guest bring a parkers though I was always hoping someone would show up with one . Out of a whole season only 2 guest brought sxs .

I may have to break down and get a mule. Right now I am just hoping to get a good supply of quail

Do you really think those quail can pull a wagon?

I only wish I had access to more than one "Thanks" for John's post.

Considering the size of your wagon, maybe a donkey.

Never been in a situation where I had the opportunity to ride a mule cart closest I ever came was riding in the gallery of a Field Trial on a Tennessee Walking Horse .

Mules will do anything you ask if they are convinced you both will enjoy it. We had them to do the work on the farm before we got a tractor in the early 50's. One thing to keep in mind is that a Mule will give you 20 years of faithful service to have the opportunity to kick you once.

Look for a mule bred out of a pony mare. I had one and she could pull like, well, a mule. I made a single tree for her out of hickory and equipped it with what I thought was rather stout hardware. The first log I hitched her to she straightened out the rings. Had to rethink the hardware a bit. She also had the sweetest disposition.
