What is the grouse challenge?
It is shot on a sporting clay course. There is about a 20’ path that the shooter walks, gun down. Rather than saying “pull” the shooter says “walking” and initiates the walk, this lets the trap boy know he is ready and walking. The trap can be released at anytime during the short walk. Some singles, some doubles, and a rabbit or two. Can shake anyone’s confidence.
Fun time and we have raised thousands of dolllars for habitat work in PA.

I attempted to put it on the calendar but couldn't figure it out. I must have tried 4 times, I'm not that good on the interscreen, I need schooled.

It's on the calendar now along with the flyer. I'm thinking of attending if the weather is decent. Haven't shot at Elstonville in many years.

If anyone wants to attend let us know soon, there are only about a dozen openings. We have 120 shooters signed on at this point.

I used to shoot at a facility that had a similar course. The shooter walked down a path through the wooded area. Hidden along the trail were garage door electric eyes that would trigger the trap(s) when the shooter passed through. It was so close to the real thing. The sensors were well hidden but that did not deter guys from watching the ground trying to locate them prior to the release. Yep, watch the ground and the bird will be long gone before your eyes can locate it. Unfortunately, it took a long time to get shooters through the course so it was not practical from a commercial standpoint.

For quite a few years, I've done a research letter for the Ruffed Grouse Society. One of their members donates a Parker every year to be raffled off at their annual meeting of the Allegheny Chapter in Altoona Pa. They invited me to one of their banquets in Altoona a few years ago, it was a huge event.
