Davant accounted for about 10 years of my quail hunting life. It was good while it lasted. Rutledge Moore was one of the great Lowcountry characters who are fewer and fewer unfortunately, as the years go on

I often wondered who would keep up the history of the south, quail hunting, pigeon shooting, competitive shooters of the early days, the DuPonts, etc. John Davis and Mills Morrison may be our last hope. Thanks for the great stories, Mills. I had some great times at Forest City. I may go back if Mills and his family will come to visit. So many thanks to Dean.

The story goes that she was camped out at the Francis Marion hotel in Charleston and had all of her friends over for a cocktail party to open the crates and see all the stuff she got. When the crates were opened, a bunch of gators came crawling out instead

Supposedly the lawyers told him not to do it, the judge slapped a huge fine on him and he said it was worth every penny

Close to where I grew up was the A.I. DuPont Memorial Pediatric Hospital. The grounds - 300 ares or so, were surrounded by an 8 foot fence, topped with broken glass shards. His will specified the glass, saying "It is to keep out undesirables, many of whom bear my family name"

Great tale Mills, but the version I heard was the crate was stuffed full of inebriated, divorce attorneys disguised as alligators. Six to one, half dozen to the other though far less billable hours your way!! :whistle:

Post Office did well by me, mailed it to me in NY and forwarded to me in Fla. The article written by Charles Wheeler about the BH Parker asked the question of the reason for that gun ending up in Schenectady, NY. Since the owner was employed by American Locomotive Co. and they merged with Schenectady Locomotive Works in 1901 it is feasible the owner was transferred to Schenectady, NY

I must admit the Richardson BH Parker now is in my care. It's a beautiful thing not high condition but untouched, the way I love to find them. Shot it today and fits like it was made fo me. I drove to Schenectady Wednesday in a snow storm to close the deal. I will bring it to Hausmann's for all to fondle.

Mills the only difficult task is deciding what to sell in order to keep within my self imposed limit on the number of shotguns I own. It's a little easier for me since my son is happy to accept my excess inventory. :rotf: He graciously accepted a 20ga Fox Sterlingworth to ease my pain. I believe you will be in the same straights in a few years when your boys are a little older. :) Sorry to all for corrupting this thread and getting way off topic.

Craig, I was the guy you beat out in the bidding for that gun. Had a deal worked out with the seller outside of the auction process but you put your GB bid in before we could close the auction, and the rest is history. A really nice gun and glad it went to someone who appreciates it.

Don: Steve Borst told me the story. I had been watching the gun on GB all Fall but the pictures were not great so I never made a bid. I was thinking about driving to Schenectady but duck season and the holidays got in the way. Then I get PP and I see the article on the gun and I say to myself I have seen that gun before. The difference was the pictures in PP were clear and sharp. So I went to my computer and put in my bid.

Craig, I did go up to Steve's place and looked at the gun a couple of weeks ago. The dimensions weren't great for me, so I passed. Had second thoughts and you know the rest. That gun has a great stick of wood on it, and the engraving is a little unique in that it only has the single dog head on each side verse the standard two full dogs. Neat gun, my loss and your gain, congratulations.

Parker Pages arrived here on the Washington/Idaho border Friday. Good to have an explanation of the 12A and 12B brass cases. I have found the A and B caveat for brass shells in the 1877 E. Remington & Sons catalog and the 1880, 1882, 1884 and 1885-6 Union Metallic Cartridge Co. catalogs. Here in the 1885-6 --
