Created this video for a friend and fellow PGCA member. Why not post it for all?

I made a case trimmer out of steel that works fantastic.
A photo of the one I copied can be found on page 151 of "Shooting the British Double Rifle" 2nd edition by Graeme Wright.

I'll run right out and buy that book. If all 1500 members of the PGCA do the same, Graeme Wright will be very happy.

Victor,

That is great! I have been doing the dowel method and though it is efficient, your method looks so much faster and cleaner.

Sadly I believe the book is out of print. Selling the book was not my intent.

What I failed to say was the trimmer Victor shared works just as well and would be fairly simple to fabricate with some basic tools and a bit of wood working skill.

Victor, thank you for proving once again that simple solutions are the best ones.

I've been using a band saw and a self made wooden jig to cut 10 gauge hulls . But I think I might just have to make myself one of these dowel rod setups with the utility blade

Or, If you have a table saw, drill as many 7/8 inch holes as needed in a 2X4 which has been trimmed to 2X2 inches. Insert your 10 gauge hulls into the holes. Adjust your guide bar to cut the desired length, and cut multiples in one slow pass over a fine toothed blade.

For many years, I have been rolling a "shell on a dowel" over a kitchen knife held in a vise. There are many variations on this, the simplest are the best.

Victor - what is the diameter and length of the dowel? That is beautiful in its simplicity. Jeff

Jeff:

3/4 inch diameter dowel. 5.5 inches long.

That's a lot quicker and easier once you find the correct length. I may make one like that for 12ga but put a screw in the end of the dowel so the length of the shell could be easily changed for roll crimps or even 2 1/2" shells. Thanks for posting.

Ive shown this little jig I made years ago, several times. I use it for 12-28. The trimmed end is every bit as square ans smooth as the NPEs that I'm cutting down. It's fast too. I just did 300 new 28ga hulls while watching Yellowstone last night.
If the pictures aren't enough for you to build your own, then buy one, because it couldn't be any simpler, and with all respect for everyone's home built trimmer, they don't compare. Yes, I'm bragging, but I'm a retired engineer and still subscribe to keeping it simple, but making it the best quality I can,
