There is lots of talk on here about 16 gauge Parkers and particularly the 0 frames compared to 1 frames. I recently acquired a 0 frame and thought to put it next to my 1 frame from several years ago, just to see the comparison for myself. These are two GH grades about 200 serial numbers apart.
The one on top with refinished barrels is the one frame. Done by Dale Edmonds and sure wish he was still around to do the ones on my 0 frame

I have a 1 frame GH 16 that had an inch relieved from the barrels YUCK . And a I have a relatively recently acquired VH 16 on a 1 frame .
I want and or need a GH 0 frame as well as a VH 0 frame preferably one with 28" barrels and the other with 26" . I have no idea if I'll feel a difference but my anal need to posses one of this and one of that fuels the fire :rotf:

I have a GH O frame 16, and an AH 16 built on the #1 frame. I really like both of these guns -- the GH is a Damascus gun and the AH has Acme Steel barrels. They both weigh essentially the same -- the GH 6 lbs 5.46 oz. and the AH 6 lbs. 5.47 oz. by my scale. The GH has a shorter stock (just under 14") with a dog's head BP, and the AH has a 14 1/8" stock with a checkered butt. Both have 28 inch barrels. The GH is balanced with more weight forward, the AH more between the hands. Interesting that they are the same weight. As has been stated here on the Forum many times, the frame is only one element of a Parker's weight. I am still amazed at how the Parker craftsmen could strike barrels (and do other things) to create a desired gun weight.

PS Mills, those are two really nice guns you've shared with us -- thanks!

Thanks Gary. I have a 1 1/2 frame 12 gauge that weighs less than the 16 1 frame. It is amazing the variation

I'm looking at a Trojan that advertises 2-3/4" chambers made in 1913. Would anyone know if that length was offered at that time? They do not state the frame size.

Not on a Trojan. It would have had to have been ordered that way... which is unlikely. A research letter may address such an order.

I see it offered on Rock Island auction, and with all the talk of 2-3/4" shells being made popular in the twenties or so leads me to believe this one may have been reamed to 2-3/4".
From the Parker Grade identification on the home page: "Though some exceptions exist, the Trojan was not available for specific order. It was limited to 12, 16 and 20 gauge and to specific frame sizes; 2, 1 and 0 respectively. Barrel lengths were fixed to two choices per gauge. Ejectors and single triggers were not produced for the Trojan."

I have both, my 1 frames are two Trojans and a skeet gun. I may not have a good feeling of the liveliness of a good one frame, but my zero frame GH is just lovely in my hands.

Mills..The GH looks better in your photos than it did on GB. I'm an "O" frame 16 fan. I have 6..VH..GH..Hammer..26"..28"..Straight grip and pistol. I'm probably stocked up now !..Just bought a PH 20..but I don't think I'll get carried away on PH grades...

I had a 1-frame 16 gauge Trojan with 26” barrels that now belongs to my brother-in-law that is every bit as light and well balanced as any of my 0-frame 16’s and I have a bunch of them - some not as light as I would hope for in a 0-frame.

There is a cult following or so it seem for 0 frame 16's. I have both in hammer guns and hammer less and the weight varies by gun, some 0 frames are lighter than the 1 frame some aren't.
I just like 16's regardless of the frame size:)

The 0 frame is more svelte than the 1 frame. I need to get a scale for my guns and weigh them. The 0 frame 16 seemed a tad heavy while quail hunting, but it still did well
The new 28 gauge handles like a dream

I'd be curious as to the actual differences in size between the two frames. I don't know how much the frame size matters to the actual overall weight of the gun as there are to many other variables.
What new 28????. They are a dream aren't they. Configuration and barrel length???

You should try one while hunting all day in the grouse tangles... even my 00-frame VHE 28 seems a bit cumbersome, but it’s better than any of my 16’s.

If I were looking for a fast handling 16 for upland birds I'd pay more attention to overall gun weight than frame size.

I used a vh 20 for the second hunt and it carried better. The 16 wasn't bad though

I'm considering getting a flat of RST 3/4 oz 16's at the Southern and take all 16's to Morrison Pines next year. Already putting the line up ready in my head:rotf:

It takes me a while to massage the list:rotf: One that will go for sure is an English hammer gun. I have about 50 2 inch rolled crimp paper shells I have been saving for something special.

Kenneth,
You are getting good, knowledgeable responses. I would add that not all advertised measurements are precise and/or correct. I've had some that were noted as 2 3/4" that were shorter. If possible, get another measurement.
