Dang I would sure like to do that, I have never been there. But as it is now it is too close to the Southern and too much travel in one month for me, Tulsa in April also. Maybe one day. Have fun everyone.

Was looking at the Addieville website for directions and it says they will be closed the next day ( Easter) in case we get rain Sat. That will not happen!!

As of this morning’s forecast Saturday’s weather looks perfect, in the 60’s and mostly sunny.

(Correction: As of 10 a.m. this morning (Tuesday 4/17) it looks like a likelihood of rain is forecast for Saturday. I guess we'll just wait and see.)

Not only will my grandson Cam be coming with me but one of my granddaughters told me she wants to go too. Lillia is 13, soon to be 14, and is the consummate athlete with basketball, soccer and outdoor track among her strengths. Lil’s older sister Isabella, “Iz” for short, wanted to come too, but has a track meet on Saturday. I LOVE that these grandkids of mine have the desire (and the encouragement from their parents) to want to come along and learn what the shooting sports are all about.

As of right now there is a 100 percent chance of rain. Ain’t looking very good. But then again this is New England

20-20 is hindsight?

Dean Romig
04-18-2019, 07:20 AM
The following Sunday has always been our rain date. But this time it falls on Easter Sunday.

I would suggest another Saturday be suggested for this year but once we get into May most of us are into turkey season.

.

edgarspencer
04-18-2019, 08:03 AM
The forecast for Mapleville has only worsened so several of us have indicated that the following Saturday may be better.

Dean Romig
04-18-2019, 08:06 AM
After that I’d be hard into turkey seasons so count me in for Saturday the 27th, along with my grandkids.

Easter or not the forecast for Sunday shows rain as well as Saturday.

Dean Romig

Robin Lewis

Okay so I guess it’s on the 27th

Reading this thread, it looks as thought Dave wasn't involved in the new date selected and since he is the organizer, I am thinking the change was made casually on this thread alone and not actually organized??? That leads me to wonder if Addieville was contacted to make these changed arrangements. They could have conflicts with the change and/or may be expecting us Saturday?

I also hope  Dave hasn't been offended, he has been the force behind this for all these years.

edgarspencer
04-18-2019, 10:57 AM
Robin, I may be partly to blame, but in no way want to be called an organizer. I merely stated that a friend and I chose not to put off, any longer, making alternative plans for THIS Saturday, and would go the following week. Obviously, others were thinking the same thing. Dave May well be offended, but I needed to make a decision on doing something else, and bolstered by a lousy forecast, and lack of any news from anyone else, decided to not go. I’ll certainly call but I’ve never had a conflict with them before.

edgarspencer
04-18-2019, 11:03 AM
I’ve just called, and there’s no conflict on the 27th. As I said previously, I’m not “organizing “ anything. If you want to shoot that day, great.

Reading this thread, it looks as thought Dave wasn't involved in the new date selected

Why do I need to involve Dave in order to go to Addieville, Simply because I decided not to go on a date that he had selected, not yet cancelled, and I didn't feel like spending a day in the rain after getting over pneumonia? Others deciding to do the same doesn't make me an organizer, or making an attempt to, preempt or show disrespect for Dave.

allen newell
04-18-2019, 02:03 PM
Edgar, it will be a pleasure to shoot with you and any other old pgca farts like us. Lol.

You don't. It's just that this thread was about an annual shooting event and it seemed the discussion was about that and not something else. Sorry if I jumped to an illogical conclusion but it did seem logical that the "new date" was in relation to this thread's topic..

allen newell
04-18-2019, 02:49 PM
If dave or anyone else has no objection, lets move this event to the 27 th.

edgarspencer
04-18-2019, 05:36 PM
That’s up to Dave, Allen. My going next week with a friend is merely because the forecast looked iffy and we wanted to shoot. The Same thing happened last year when George put an Addieville Shoot together in March. He wasn’t trying to replace Dave’s shoot, he merely wanted to shoot. It’s such a loose schedule I just don’t get all the wise cracks.

allen newell
04-18-2019, 06:08 PM
Well, there is no reason for anyone to get their balls in an uproar over this. As i said before, if Dave has no issue with moving the event to the 27th, then.lets do it. Either way Egdar, i will shoot on the 27th and if you have room for this old man, id be pleased to shoot with you.

Is anyone still going?

Jay Oliver
04-25-2019, 09:43 AM
Allen, I wish I could as it is such a great time. Plus, I have a A grade 10 gauge Top Action Hammer project gun I wanted to show off and get some opinions on restoration options.

I got a "new" boat last fall and just sold my old one this week. Saturday morning is the sea trial and I am more than ready to say goodbye to the old one and start getting the new one ready.

Addieville is fairly close for many of us, so maybe I can join you for some shooting there sometime soon.

Robin Lewis
04-25-2019, 10:05 AM
I can't make it... First one of these I will not attend since it started :-(

I wouldn't mind putting something together towards the end of May for another shoot. Would that work?

Dean as far as boats go, I sold my Boston Whaler 25' Outrage. With 3 kids we had really outgrown, even though it is a great boat. The "new" boat is a 31' Rampage Express with twin diesels. I need some new pictures, but here is an older picture. This will be something we can stay and do some offshore fishing in. I also still have a BW 17' Montauk on a tidal river behind my house that we have fun with.

Dean Romig
04-25-2019, 12:43 PM

Dean Romig

Hausmann's is the first week of June and I'll be concentrating on turkeys all of May so I think a shoot in late May/early June is a no-go for me.

Dean, I guess it will be you, the kids, Edgar and me. Have not heard from anyone else. By the way, the damascus barrels arrived today and i took them over to Dan C. Only minimum fitting will be required. They practically slid on. Only issue is the chambers were reported to me from the seller as 2 5/8 but after Dan measured them they are actually 2 1/8. Dan indicated there is plenty of metal to open the chambers to 2 3/4 's. Since i only shoot light loads there is no issue except the extra cost to open them. Barrels are clean, excellent condition

edgarspencer
04-25-2019, 04:31 PM
I’ll be there also, Allen.

With regard to those Damascus barrels, I would not do anything until I got a letter. It would be highly unusual for them to measure 2 1/8”, and if you were following another current thread regarding barrel measurements, Dr Drew shows a cross section of the chamber. The beginning of the forcing cone, moved forward 1/2” May yield a very thin wall section.
If the gun is actually chambered for shells of about 2 1/4”, it is almost certain to be a special order.

allen newell
04-25-2019, 04:58 PM
Edgar, we can discuss this Saturday. What time do you plan to arrive?

From the sounds I hear from my roof I expect all moisture to be well-wrung out of the atmosphere by tomorrow morning. Anyway, I plan to make the trip down to Addieville.

Kathy G., sometimes an unofficial event photographer, will not be present. She travels on the morrow to New York City to perform with her Concord, New Hampshire-based orchestra.

I will have a GH 12- gauge, choked full and full; ammo and be wearing rubber boots (“wellies” for those who project a mid-Atlantic-Man panache).

Dean Romig
04-26-2019, 10:29 PM
I have three grandchildren sleeping here tonight so we can get an early start in the morning.
Kathy has decided to come along to help "herd the cats" and she's bringing Grace to add to the ruckus.
I'll get my own key so we don't slow anybody down. It's gonna be some fun!

.

allen newell
04-27-2019, 04:34 PM
Good shoot today. Challenging course as usual. Great camaraderie. But no pictures to show. No one brought a camera. lol. Good thing as I missed many shots

Dean Romig
04-27-2019, 05:13 PM
Kathy got a picture or two but as we were just shooting as a family, that's all we have.

We enjoyed it very much and it was nice to visit with our local PGCA friends.

My granddaughters had never shot a firearm before today but each of them broke about a dozen clays at hard crossers that I never thought they would hit.
We voted them "Most Improved"!

Kathy shot at two incomers and smashed them both and I wish she had shot more but she was more interested in watching the grandkids.

Between Cam, Izzy, Lill, and myself we shot at 280 clays. Cam has improved too, breaking almost 50%. The wind made for some interesting targets and at every shot Grace looked intently for a falling grouse or woodcock.... poor girl was pretty confused!

.

edgarspencer
04-27-2019, 06:26 PM
As is often the case, I had ample opportunity to admire the grace and guile of the completely intact wild New England Clay bird. They will not be placed on any endangered list anytime soon. It's always a pleasure shooting with other side-by-side people. I never met one I didn't like. Today was fun, if only that we all laughed at our misses, without excuse.

Daniel Carter
04-27-2019, 07:30 PM
Had a great time today, had more to do with the people and dog ( Grace) than the targets. The shooting is fun but that can be done any time, learned some things ,saw some great guns and had a lot of laughs. Look forward to next time.

Dean Romig
04-27-2019, 10:12 PM
Here's my little crew.

Left to right- myself of course, Grace, Iz, Cam and Lill...

Kathy isn't pictured because she's the photographer...

Also distinguishable by their absence (they are shooting elsewhere on the course) are Edgar Spencer, Allen Newell, Dan Carter, Russell, Keith and one other (can't remember his name) who was shooting a gun with the barrels going the wrong way.

Russell E. Cleary
04-28-2019, 06:55 AM
Dean:
It was two deputies that Edgar arrived with, neither of whom I had seen before. There was Alan, who with admirable aplomb, when considering the vintage gun milieu, shot the stack-barrel. And, there was Keith, who came with two PH 12s for us to examine and learn about, one of which he shot the course with.

It was super that so many in your family could join in and do so well breaking targets.

Overall, it was a smaller group for such events but definitely another enjoyable get-together.

edgarspencer

I'm allowed off the funny farm, but only when accompanied by two orderlies.
Nice to see them not in all white. I'm not trusted with live ammo yet, hence my score.

George, a summertime sporting clays shoot would be fun. And we hopefully would only have to contend with the challenging clays and not this miserable weather we have been experiencing here in the East.
