Okay,

Trying to fill out the registration form for the Southern, and I am confused. I will admit, that the feeling of being confused seems to be occurring more frequently!

SO,

I don't see the qualifying rounds for the Team on the form. I am also confused, as when looking at the results from last year, there are categories for every gauge, but how can LC Smith compete in the 28 bore event, if there are no LC 28's made? I am assuming the Parker Team must shoot Parkers and the LC Team must shoot LC's?

Does the "Main Event" on Sunday play into the Cup competition?

You don't pre-register for the Parker-Smith Challenge and it is separate from the other Deep River events. That has caused some confusion in the past.

Come down to the Parker-Smith tent and sign ups will be there starting Friday morning. Friday is usually lighter and so signing up then should not be a problem.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Thanks Mills....okay so how the heck does LC field a 28 bore team?

They probably sleeved a few 20s down to 28.

Actually one 28 gauge Smith was produced years ago and it was made for a family member of the owners if I’m not mistaken . And I think it’s still in that family .

The Fall Southern is its own event. It is a separate shoot with is own events and side events/ etc. You cannot use the information from one to sign up for the other.

The LC Smith vs Parker event/ and events are their own thing. Like Mills says sign up for those at the Parker/ Smith tent.

Unfortunately to confuse maters even more. There are 20 ga, 16 ga and now 10 ga Smith vs Parker events. These take place on Wed (10 ga) and Thursday (20 and 16). Only on the two five stand fields.
The real challenge event starts with qualifying rounds on Friday to Saturday. Then the shoot off Saturday evening with the hammergun event Sunday am.

Lots to shoot. Lots of fun.
IMO it is best to figure a plan out a head of time but don't pre register. Just register there and have fun but have a rough plan of what you want to shoot each day.

Enjoy,

John

I am in total agreement with Johns prior post and not pre registering, I have never done so as there is really ne need IMO. Especially if this is your first year. You could end up running yourself crazy. Just go down and take it all in, get a feel for things and then decide how much you want to shoot. I like the shooting, looking at the guns, visiting with everyone and just about everything about it. My point being it can be hard to get everything in actually. The first year I went I did not get a cart, that'll never happen again !

Good....I was feeling a little overwhelmed. I really like to shoot...but I was going to be pissed if I was having a major missing streak, and felt like I HAD to shoot some events because I had paid my money up front.

Got a cart reserved already...

Thanks for all the advice..

The weather is always a concern as well. Pay in advance and then get a bunch of rain, well that would stink. I do not shoot in the rain.

I go to the Southern to shoot and I do. I took 21 guns last year and shot every one of them, some of them twice, plus all of the Parker - Smith challenge events....just do it!

And you shot them quite well as I recall to Jim. Dang that's a lot of guns to shoot in that time. You must be busy while there to get all that shooting in. Save some energy for the Challenge events.:)

Jim makes the team on a regular basis.

Thank you for your support Jim!

I have been to 8 Spring and 3 Fall Southerns. All are great ! If you are in good health and don't mind walking ( The lay of the land is flat and hand carts are great )a golf cart isn't needed at the Spring Southern. The Fall event its a different story! Last year I had a cart at the Spring due to hip replacement. Backwoods is 5000 ac. plus while Deep River is 100 ac or less. Both are MUST Attend events ! IMO but the Fall is a Shooters Shoot. The Spring has a lot more vendors and exhibits. Both are a very good time and something you will enjoy !

I am going to very respectfully disagree with you on the golf cart issue at the Southern Mark. I enjoy walking and I do a lot of it with a 40 lb pack. I flat wore myself out down there the one year without a cart. That ain't going to happen again. Maybe I'm getting soft, or possibly wiser but I doubt that.

Thanks for the comment Randy, I must have been busy, I met myself coming around the corner 3 different times!!

I wish I lived closer. I would love to help whoop some of those inferior gun teams ; )

I think you are off on the acreage a bunch. The area where the courses are is 1900 acres. The total acreage, owned and leased, by Backwoods is close to 25,000. The only reason I know this is I am a member there and work all the events.

Backwoods is first class all the way
