View Full Version : Galazan cleaning rod question...

Just checked out Tony's cleaning rods. Of course there are three sizes (12/16 and 20/28). Is there any real reason to buy two rods or will the 20/28 work for a 16 ga?
Thanks,
JDG

Any size that will fit down the bore will work. The threads are all the same.

Richard, of course - is right... If you get the accessories that fit to the threaded end - like the cleaning mops, they are gauge specific (except, I think the 16-20 Gauge which should work with either???)..
As well -- I have three Galazan rosewood rods that are accessories that I keep in the hard cases. They are well made and look "vintage".
Hope this helps!

Does anyone know if the larger rod (12/16) will fit through the barrels of a 28?
Thanks!

Hi Jay!
Actually - if they are the same rods I have, they will fit through a 28 GA BBL. I'm just wondering out loud here - BUT - I wonder if the 20/28 rods are a slightly smaller diameter to protect the bore a bit from the brass fittings?? Just a guess - and not really sure?? You might want to call Tony and ask directly.. He's "good people"...

Galazan has some nice cleaning rods, but another thing you may want to consider is the cost of replacement mops and brushes. The Galazan cleaning rod fittings have a different thread size than most others, so a replacement mop or brush costs $16 each plus shipping from Galazan compared to others such as a KleenBore mop or brush at less than $3 each.

Membership renewed! At 12:06 AM my time??!!
Seriously - your Membership on the forum is automatically updated (and was in 1.62 seconds, according to my server logs ;) ) and before I left for work this AM, sent you an e-mail "Thank You" note and posted your Membership in this thread... (http://parkerguns.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2401)
Jay - thank you... While I have nothing at all to do with Memberships (I only programmed the on-line membership systems in my code/systems/servers/software, maintain the on-line Memberships, use my PayPal to accumulate Membership dues, send out "Thank You" notes and finally - assist folks in that process) - know how much your support is appreciated...
Thanks, Jay!

Whoo-whoo!
I was an annual member for about 8 years or so after the PGCA was formed and when it was announced that the life membership was going up from $250 to $500, bit the bullet and became a lifer. Money well spent and I don't have to think about it any more.
Thanks for spearheading and streamlining this membership thing, John.

Took the plunge, ordered the 20/28 rod and accessories for my 16 qne 28. Got the accessories but the rod...is on back order for "at least a month." So I ask whether the 12/16 rod will work in a 28 ga..."oh, no. Maybe the 20 but not a 28 ga." So I now have $90 worth of accessories but no idea when I'll have a rod that fits them.
Damn.

Jay,
A 12/16 cleaning rod may indeed be too large in diameter for the bore of a 28 gauge. accessories threads should however fit any shotgun cleaning rod. I believe teh threads are 5/16". Someone correct me if I am wrong.
I have the Galazan wooden rods and they are great. I also have a plastic coated Dewey rod which I received from Brownells. I also like that rod very much.
