I just went on the Hampton Inn site to book a room for the spring Southern. It said they are all sold out for the time period. Did the PGCA get a block of rooms for us??

Is it the Hampton or the Comfort Inn?

Here we go again.... The Hampton Inn will they ever get their sh.t together! Sorry after a couple of years the PGCA should look somewhere else.

We had lots of problems last year. I know a member who already booked for 2019 and got the preferred rate. Who knows.

There is a block for the PGCA at the Hampton Inn, as always. I arranged this a couple of months back. If there are any problems when you call the hotel to book please PM me or post here and I will fix them. Be sure to mention you are with the PGCA to get our group rate.

FYI... Just made reservations for Spring Southern SxS and all was very efficient and went smoothly. PGCA Special room rate same as last year: $105 plus taxes.
(Be sure to mention the special PGCA room rate). 🤗 Thanks Josh! 😊

I just booked. I first called the front desk as I know many times room blocks require the front desk to book under, but the guy at the desk told me he was instructed by his manger to not book any rooms until next monday and that I would have to call the reservation line.
I then did that and was able to book under the PGCA block with no trouble.

Brian, which number did you call to get the reservation line?

It was a selection in the phone prompts when I called the main Hotel line. 919-775-2000

Brian, I called the front desk and got the same answer. I was going to wait until Monday to call again but thanks to your post I'll call back for reservations in the morning. Thanks, John

Everyone - I have spoken to PJ at the Hampton. There has been some confusion on our rate and our block. Apparently, the hotel is now totally renovated and the owners will need to charge $115 per night. In an effort to ease the pain, they will throw us a small party/gathering one evening with beer and refreshments complimentary. Those who have booked at $105 will be able to keep that rate, those who book from here on out will pay the $115. I pushed and pushed and pushed, but they would not relent on the rate change. I am sorry.
I apologize for the confusion but the hotel should be quite nice when we are there.

Maybe next year compare the Holiday Inn Express just down the road for their rate and see which is best.

Just a little advice. I always check the hotel website and check what the rate will be after any discounts that are available. For instance , AARP, NRA, or rental car company discounts that are not connected to renting a car.

The comfort suites across the road is very nice. I stayed there a couple years ago at Government rate of $99/night. You may want to see what we can get for a group rate over there next year.

I just booked my room at the Hampton Inn on hotels.com for $101.00 per night.

I have stayed at the Comfort Suites on Bragg St for the last 4 or 5 years and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Service has been great, the place is modern and clean, the comp breakfast is actually pretty good for a comp, and there is a nice gathering spot/gazebo out front. Rates are similar to those being mentioned here previously. Their # is 919-842-5600 if interested.

I just tried to make a reservation at Hampton Inn in Sanford...GOOD LUCK! I could not understand a word the lady on the line said. I know I am from Alabama but I am literate. The people that H ampton Inn hires on the reservations desk do not have English as one of their languages in with they are conversant.

If anyone finds a better hotel than the Hampton, let me know. Seriously. We will move our business in a heartbeat

As I posted earlier. I received a better rate than the one set up for the PGCA on hotels.com. $14.00 less to be exact.

You gotta watch out for some of those third party booking sites.
My brother booked a hotel in miami through one of them only to find that they cancelled his reservation on him 2 weeks before his stay. He was never told about it. He found out when he called the hotel directly to confirm. He is still trying to get his money back. And he had to book with the hotel directly at a higher rate.

Brian... a had a bad experience with one of the “booking agencies” a few years ago, too. When my wife and I arrived at the hotel (major brand) they told me they were all sold out!! I had a confirmed reservation by the agency (that still advertises on TV) but the motel told me they could “override a third party booking service” and I should have made reservations with them directly. They sold my room to another party that arrived 20 minutes before me!! I had a very difficult time finding another room as it was the peak of vacation season in the area at the time. I have never used them again nor the popular motel chain.

After reading some of the bad experiences some have had with reservations with Hampton thru 3rd company agencies, I called Hampton Inn directly in Sanford to confirm my reservation. I was confirmed as I made the reservation thru Expedia. I paid more but now I know that I have a room from Tuesday thru Saturday. Don't call the international reservations # for Hampton because you will get someone that you can't understand. I spoke with a young lady in Sanford at the Sanford # (919-775-2000). I hope this helps.

Staying at the Hampton. Used Hilton points to defray some of the cost.

Thanks Gary and let us know how your experience goes and if it would work well as a new PGCA Southern headquarters.
The same goes for anyone attending the Southern who is staying in a hotel other than the Hampton. Let me know if you think you have found a good replacement. Take notes on price, comfort/cleanliness of facilities, competence/friendliness of hotel staff and convenience to Deep River.
Shoot me a pm and thanks

Dr. Bob (of the LACA) will tell you that America's Best Value Inn would NOT be the first choice. But... they DO have a pool. Kind of...

In the past, many of us have stayed in Fuquay-Varina, at the Quality Inn. We used to have 8-10 PGCA guys sitting in the breakfast area in the morning. I dont think anybody is staying there this year--that I know of. If that is the case, I will get a room in Sanford. Last year it was just me and Quigley, and I know he is not going back this year.

The Quality Inn in Fuquay Varina is a good place, but a little far from Deep River. If you don't mind the drive, it is comfortable and reasonable

Well Rich, I and Daryl are staying at Mike's but the Quality Inn is a great spot less cost then the Hampton Inn and just a few minutes from Drakes Landing for a round of sporting clays with a group of PGCA members. And then go over to the Southern to shop and meet all of the Parker members at the tent.

I was late to book rooms because my family wouldn't commit. Now that they have committed, the Hampton is sold out and I will need to be committed.
As a backup plan, I booked over at the Holiday Inn but would prefer the Hampton.
Does anyone have any rooms at the Hampton they are not going to use?
Thanks
George
