View Full Version : Membership in the Parker Gun Collectors Association Has Value

We all know that there are many valuable benefits that go along with being an Annual or a Lifetime member of the PGCA - and just to list two, and not to appear redundant....

1.) A subscription to Parker Pages - the quarterly journal of the PGCA and quite possibly the best newsletter or journal of any American gun collector organization - but in actuality a color, glossy, 48-page magazine of the highest quality both in appearance and in content. (I may be a bit biased, but I really do believe it.)

2.) The ability to buy and sell Parker shotguns (as well as a myriad of other sporting stuff) without having to pay advertising fees, commissions, or premiums to auction or sales sites - but directly to an interested audience of some 1,400 like-minded potential buyers or sellers, many of whom are looking for exactly what you're selling or have exactly what you have been looking for.

These are just two very tangible benefits of membership and I know we can all name several more.

But the point I want to make is that when someone new signs on to this forum either as a "Forum Associate" or even as a first-time "PGCA Member" there is a box he must check, or else he is not allowed on the forum... It's that simple - Read the Forum Rules - Agree to abide by the rules by checking the box and you're allowed in as often as you wish..... But Remember, you have agreed to abide by the rules.

To disobey the rules and say you have a gun for sale.... or that you're thinking of selling.... or that someone told you you should sell it... or even asking the leading question of what your gun is worth on the open market - is a direct violation of the rules... Period - and is a slap in the face to those who have paid their dues for the privilege of doing what the non-member has just done against what he KNEW was wrong.

I have posted this because I have been accused of being a "grouch" (which I know I can be - but not in this instance) and causing someone's thread to be closed down (which is a justifiable result) and by doing so, being a not so welcoming entity. Far from it - I am delighted to see new members, new Forum Associates and new visitors.... as long as they abide by the same rules the rest of us (paid Members) all do.
Some will say "It's not your job to police the forum..." to which I will say - It is every member's job to help maintain the value of the benefits of PGCA Membership.

I sincerely hope I haven't stepped on anyone's toes nor overstepped my bounds... not being a Moderator but simply a frequent user.

Best, Dean

Please see below - These are what a new user sees when he signs on to our forum and they are what he agrees to when he checks that little box.

Who are our moderators at this time anyway? John Dunkle of course. I know that Mark O. was, but he fell off the face of the earth, or at least in the double gun community.

Dean,

I don't think you are a grouch. If it was closer to X-MAS you could be a grinch! :-) Other boards get way out of control, but this one wrote it's rules and tries to keep the posts within the rules.

Most of us are old enough to have seen many clubs and organizations come and go through the years. This is a class act as a result of much hard work by many quality individuals like yourself, Dean. Thanks to all who have made this organization possible and something that we enjoy and can be proud of each time we log in. Some of the special people that made it possible are no longer with us and we all owe them a debt to protect and enjoy what they were so proud of, again Thanks to All and keep up the good work.

One only has to look at the cesspools some of the other forums have become to be thankful for the privilege of hanging out here from time to time.

Amen to that. The DNA testing thread over there is kind of funny though

...The DNA testing thread over there...

Why Mills, however did you guess which board I might be referring to...?

Wild guess. I miss when they were exposing each other for being closet anti gunners

I don't miss any of it. I haven't logged on there in ages, but I admit to being the occasional voyeur...the examples of rampant stupidity and the arrogance alone are worth the price of admission.

(Oops: I admit to logging on today to ask the question about my nephew's DeHaan.)
