Pad replacement

I bought a Remington GH 12 gauge recently which is in great shape, with the exception of a modern butt pad and spacer that need to go. It looks like the stock has not been cut. Looking to make it right.

How idiot proof is replacing the new pad with either a Silvers pad or (preferably) a Remington era DHBP? I see Ebay has them for sale, but I can imagine that could be iffy.

Unless you've done a number of pads before, especially the Silver's, it's best to hand this job off to a pro. They won't charge much, and the result will be something prideful. I recommend Bachelder.

It really needs a DHBP.

The installation of a DHBP will be entirely dependent on the stock being original and completely unaltered. So... it may be an option for you.

Keep in mind that even Remington era guns will have a curve in the butt of the stock. So if it does not have it, then it has likely been cut.

A more period correct pad can be installed and there are varying thicknesses available to bring the LOP back if you do not want to cut the stock back. But 1/2" will be as thin as you can really go.

If you do not have the experience and proper equipment, it is not really a DIY job and have it turn out as nice as you may hope.
