What percentage of VH 12g a. were made on # 1 frames? I am looking at one and am wondering how common they are. Thank you.

That information is not known. One can only speculate.

Charlie in my wandering of gun shops and the internet, admittedly limited, i had not seen many. It has one glaring wart, a shortened stock, now a spacer and pad but it is otherwise good to my purposes and has a new home now.

I would think that the 1 frame would be close to a standard for the 12

The 1 frame, the 1 1/2, and the 2 are the common standard sizes for the 12 gauge.
The 1 1/2 made it's debut just before the turn of the century and eventually caused the 1 frame to be phased out.

Once again in my limited experience i have seen many 2 frame 12 ga. but this is the first 1 frame i have been offered. Any how it suits me and the price was fair.

There seem to be a lot of 1 frame 12 gauges in the early days of hammerless Parkers, but not as many once the 1 1/2 frame came in

The "Standard" frame size for the 12g. was the 2 frame when things started out. It came to be 1-1/2 later on.
Generally speaking, standard frame sizes are:
20g. - 0
16g. - 1
12g. - 2
10g. - 3
Then if a lighter or heavier gun was needed within a given gauge, the frame size could be altered depending on needs.

I would like to see some pictures of these 1 frame V grade 12 gauge guns. Serial range and clear pic of the lug showing the the frame size would be appreciated.

I had two #1 frame 12 gauge GH Parkers from 1893 within 60 or so serial numbers of one another. Kevin Kelley purchased the best one. I have a PH with Twist barrels and a set of DH Damascus barrels that fit it. Nice little 7 pound guns.

Not the best quality pic I will grant you, but it appears to be the best I can provide at the moment. 1891 Parker GH 1 frame. 65962. weight is 7lbs 12 oz.

Austin, Was always of the opinion that the 1 frame 12 gauge was the standard gun. 2 frames and up were for heavier guns.

Right Dave - In the days of the exposed hammer Parkers the 1-frame 12 bore was the standard but the 2-frame was ordered by those who shot waterfowl and at pigeon and clays games for a purse of prize. This practice generally carried into the hammerless era until just before the turn of the century when the 1 1/2-frame was introduced.

I bet that is a light 12 with 3lb 10 oz barrels. I had a 1 frame 3 dog at one time that was 6lbs 12 oz...man those barrels flew.

7 pounds even, fits very well and feels alive in your hands. I was hooked as soon as i mounted the gun. It came from the estate of a fellow club member who was what i call a gun hoarder, would buy anything with no clear purpose just to have it. There were 6 Parkers, this being the only one of good condition.

Why are photos of 1 frame VH guns being requested/provided? To prove they exist?
I own a VH 1 frame 12g. But you will just have to take my word for it.

Post #12 asked for a photo of the lug and a serial # range, never having posted a photo here i thought it was time to learn.

I think the 1 frame was the standard frame for the 16ga, the 2 frame is standard for the 12ga
