I posted this on the Remington Society and A.H. Fox Collectors sites, but thought I'd do it here as well for some different eyeballs.

I was recently examining my CEO-Grade 135944 and comparing it to some pictures I have of 135970. On my gun the C on the barrels is stamped on the bottom of the web of the barrel lug and on 135970 it is on the barrel flat near the serial number (as commonly seen). Also there is an R under the serial number on the barrel flat of my gun. My barrels are engraved on top just like other higher grades of that era.

Does any of this mean anything or am I making "much ado about nothing!"

There have been a series of articles on these guns in the DGJ the last few issues. IIRC they addressed your question.

Remington 1894 story: there was a Remmy 1894-T (Trap) gun with straight grip stock being walked around at the Northeast SxS for $600. All original 30" with F&F chokes and perfect screws, ejectors strong and in time, higher dimensions with excellent checkering, original buttplate and finishes but it had a small hard to see crack sideways behind the top tang. Looked to be there a long time and not really going anywhere. He walked it past most all the vendors and came back to me and said he'd take 5 bills and I was rationalizing that but meanwhile a gent we both know came by to look and took it for the $600. Just goes to show how 1894 Remingtons although excellent double guns just don't command high prices except in the higher grades. JME.
