View Full Version : Big guns at the annual meeting

I see many posts regarding members bringing their BIG guns to the annual meeting for display, the theme is waterfowl guns. It would be fun to meet at the Vintagers shoot at a set time Saturday and shoot them as a group on the sporting clays course or maybe the 25 bird practice flurry. A 5-stand would be perfect but it appears Hopkins does not have a 5 stand?? Anyone interested? I think it would be fun and kinda cool to see the big guns in action. Craig Larter

Mr Larter,

Great idea. A couple of us did this at the Southern on Sunday after the black powder event and we discussed doing this at the VGC at Hopkins.

Please count me in. I will shoot my eight bore.
I know of at least one or two more guys I can get to shoot their eight bore.

Either the course or a five stand. Does not matter to me. Just let me know when, and where to be.

All my best,

John

PS: Hopkins has three five stands. Two different ones set for practice and then the third was used last year for the Fox vs Parker Challenge.

Will this be a 25 or 50 bird event ? I assume 10’s and 12’s are acceptable as well ?

I picture this as a meet, greet, show and tell and fun shoot gathering. It should be as inclusive as possible with the only restriction being it must be a Parker. Everyone knows what a waterfowl gun is without defining it by gauge, frame size etc. Since interest has been expressed I will contact Hopkins and determine what shooting venue would be best. I will report back. Craig Larter

This is for the BOD and members only. Since this event is our annual meeting and a shooting event. I would suggest, for your consideration, a Parker shoot that would be a part of the vintagers shoot. ie. you would pre-register (or not) whatever score you shoot on the course for the vintage shoot (50 targets)would be your score for the Parker event. No work for anyone here. the highest score for a Parker shooter in each gauge receives a case of shells provided by the PGCA and awarded at the annual meeting. What do you think?

I think I’ll bring Buster and let him have at it.

Please this is not any kind of PGCA sanctioned event. It is informal gathering on Saturday at a set time to shoot and participate in a show and tell of these great old guns. I am sure we will all make new friends. Craig

Is RST coming to provide shells like they do at the Southern? Seems I remember they do for this event. That would help those of us flying with our guns.

Mills, RST has been there the past two years with a big set up.

I would think they will be there again. I will call Julie and find out.

Buddy: Why not kill two pigeons with one pellet and simply shoot the qualifier for the Fox vs. Parker Challenge, which is run concurrent to The American Classic 50-bird event? The BOD can decide whether or not to award prizes for the top qualifying Parker scores by gauge.

Mr Cambria,

I hope you guys are still planning the Fox vs Parker Challenge for this upcoming VGC.

Thank you for all of your work on this and making it happen.
It will be a good shoot for sure.

Thanks again,

John

George will have tower pheasant shoots starting "this fall". This is an ideal venue for our eight gauges. No more ground hunting of upland birds.

OK: I checked with Hopkins Game Farm and they will have multiple five stands open for the Vintagers. How about those interested in shooting their big Parker waterfowl guns meet ready to shoot at the Parker display table at the Vintagers at 10:00am sharp Saturday September 22nd. We can then go as a group to a five stand and blast away!! Should be big fun and a good chance to meet new friends and handle some interesting iron. Craig Larter

Sounds great. I am probably going to drive and if I do will have several. Let's try to get photos and info for a good article in Parker Pages.

Make sure everyone knows which five stand. In the past two years they have had two practice five stands, which remain open and running all day, and then a five stand just behind where the tents are, which is used for the Fox-Parker Challenge. I doubt they will let you guys use that one as the targets will be set for that competition.

Not telling you what to do just giving you information as a heads up.

Yall have fun.

Thanks for putting this shoot on, Craig, and also for running the People's Choice Award! Both were a lot of fun.

What great pictures. The five stands were pretty nice with one dedicated to simo pairs only. Charlie, most hammerless eights are on the #6 frame, most hammer guns in eight gauge are on the #7 frame. Both were well represented at the Vintage Cup.
