This is a Grade 2 I recently acquired. It is a fixer upper, but I have seen (and saved) worse. It is a lifter, but has game engraving like the Grade 2 top levers. Very much a transitional gun.
I compared it to a top lever grade 2 I have that is 20,000 serial numbers later and this one has a lot more scroll and decorative engraving than the later grade 2.

For those wondering, it has 30" barrels which appear to be original (and check out in the book). It looks like it was originally a pistol grip stock and someone replaced it with a straight grip. Stock is pretty massive and appears to have been designed to handle recoil from Mac Daddy stuff

Still has the old style firing pins and the smaller extractor, but the newer radius and reinforcing rib at the breech face/water table intersection, along with the later style engraving. Looks like the barrels may be stamped Pt but then there are two D's. What does the top rib say? Serial no.? A very interesting transition gun!

Here is another one from the same era. A 12 gauge on a 1 frame. A joy to shoot.

Very nice Mills. I like it! It doesn't look like too much of a project and the engraving is not that worn. A very nice gun and a great find!

Thanks Jay. I think you are right and a good cleaning will do wonders for it.

Mills, congratulations. A good friend and PGCA member called me and put me onto the little #4 frame. However, too many irons in the fire, too many projects right now. You can't argue about the price.
