Serial number question

16 gauge SxS, hammerless, ejectors, double triggers, serial number on upper is 73*@#, serial number on lower is 180*@# (last 3 digits exactly the same for both). It's the model with the engraved dog and birds and scrollwork. I'm new to this, but logic states that if the numbers are the same, it all belongs together, and if the numbers are different then it's parts from 2 different guns. It's been in the family for 90+ years (serial # on lower is a 1918 build which is about the time it came into the family), gifted to my great-grandfather. Any knowledge thrown my way would be greatly appreciated.

Shotgun's at my dad's house, but it says Damascus on the top. I haven't taken it apart ever, so I don't know about any other marks.

Imagine that! What are the chances hammers from a gun 1000 higher in SN ended up on my gun.

Now, edgar. We are talking apples to oranges there kind of. 1,000 numbers can be in the realm of possibility. Or can be chalked up as a stamping error. I have seen a few other examples of your type of scenario.

But... almost 100,000 serial numbers off.? in this case i think it is simply coincidental that the last 3 numbers are the same.

That is if the information being provided is correct. We are yet to get an answer on the grade or barrel type.

In the case if my gun, it’s quite reasonable to assume someone simply made a stamping error, but it does illustrate, that in most things Parker, it’s best not to generalize.
If the OP could give us the grade, it certainly would point towards the correct SN, though it’s a rare piece, and pretty unlikely in the 180k range, with original Damascus barrels.
