There are some nice Repros on the block this week. I am surprised the BHE Steel Shot Special is estimated at $3500-$5000. Seems low for such a pretty and functional gun.

Most auction houses do that to draw bids if they publish a catalog. Smaller auction houses that don't have a catalog often don't have estimated values.

I sold my BHE Steel Shot Special for more than that eighteen years ago. Curious to see what this one brings at auction.

I had inquired a couple of years ago about the possibility of any SSSs that might have been produced as A-1 Specials or B-Grades. http://parkerguns.org/forums/showthread.php?t=19537

This BHE (S/N 12-0098) that RIA is auctioning off is interesting and leads to more questions . . .

Interesting to say the least.

I rode up to Rock Island today to look over the guns. They had the two guns you reference sitting side by side on a table. The condition on both was almost identical with the only discernible differences being the engraving and the color/figure of the wood. I was sure I must be missing something, but I could not figure the estimates either.

Not too many nicer doubles in this sale, but enough to look over and covet.

Again, auction house estimates of high and low values are not like high and low speed limits on the highways where it is illegal to exceed the high number as well as fall below the low number. These low estimates are set to draw bids. It is the wish of both the auction house as well as the consignor that the hammer price will far exceed the high estimate.

I see now that RIA has backed off identifying and describing the BHE S/N 12-0098 as a Steel Shot Special. The only thing left in the description that refers to it being a Steel Shot Special is a letter from the original purchaser that accompanied his deposit to Paul Jaeger, Inc. when the gun was ordered, the letter is dated from Dec. 1987. The Parker Story reported that the Skeuse's weren't approached about developing a SSS model until sometime in 1988.

More interesting . . . more intrigue . . . and more mystique.

Hammered at $6000. Someone got a great gun at a great price.

Does anyone have the hammer prices on the other Reproductions?
Thanks!

There were others earlier in the sale but I did not write them down. If I recall there were no real surprises.
