I saw somewhere that more guns were sold in March 2018 than any other month on record. I acquired two: a 10 gauge EH in great condition and an early GH 12 gauge in rougher condition, but on a 2 frame with 32 inch barrels.

The EH is really in great shape for its age and has unique engraving. 32 inch barrels on a 3 frame. Massive gun.

The GH is actually in better shape than it appears in the photos. Stock fit to the frame is not great, but it is tight. Fore end is loose and needs attention. Bores have been honed, but still should be fine with RST's.

Who else participated in the rally and what found its way to your safe?

Mills,

Love the EH with the fishtail. Does the GH have a donor stock maybe from a dying GH? That would explain the fit.

Thanks Jerry. A donor stock might be the answer. It looks worse than it is, thankfully.

Nothing for me in March, Mills, but I did sell an Ithaca 20 and a DHE 12 in March. Which helped me acquire a nice little Parker that I am picking up this weekend! Nice acquisitions Mills!

I picked up a DH 16 with a straight/splinter stock and original 26 inch barrels in March. It should arrive tomorrow. I also purchased a nice grade 4 L C Smith with one of the most nicely figured pieces of walnut I've ever seen (and with what appears to be a factory skeleton steel buttplate). I actually purchased the Smith this past weekend, so maybe that doesn't count(?) :rotf:

Nothing too special, a BSA Ejector made for the RAF and a little Remington 28ga express for the kid. No Parkers unfortunately!

Gary I've been looking for a 16 like that DH congrats. NO purchases for me BUT the Southern is right around the corner and that always yields a gun or two.

I managed one acquisition in March. A 1918 DHE with 36" barrels. Matter of fact I hope to give it a work out on the trap field tonight, the maiden voyage.
I managed to get through the Tulsa show intact but Vegas was hard on the gun fund. And then there's Sanford waiting in the wings.:banghead:

Hey, Rich,

I'm headed to NC for the first time. I'll only be there for one day, but I'm going to check out the exhibitors guns. Hope to see you there...and that we both find a prize or two.

Hey Gary, bring that DH 16 to the Southern, I'll have my little DHE 16 with me, mine has 26" barrels also, choked cyl/mod. Maybe join us at Drakes Thursday.

Around this time, most years, Rich says he is not buying anything at the Southern and is just going to look. If he has already given up now, it should be a good weekend for some dealers

Model 21 Skeet Gun. While at my local FFL picking it up, I looked at a nice honest 28-inch barrel VH-Grade 20-gauge he'd gotten in.

Don't tell my wife this or she will insist we come Saturday instead of Friday. I wish I could have more time to take everything in, but it just won't work this year. I've owned and hunted with guns for over 55 years, and collected doubles for nearly 30, but I've never fired a gun at clays except an occasional round with a hand trap behind the house. It sure seems like this event and others like it are well respected (and much anticipated) by many members.

Harold, We'll only be in NC for the day on Friday, so I will miss anything on Thursday. I would someday like to catch up with you and reminisce (or commiserate!) about grouse hunting in Ohio "back in the day"-- and look over that 16 DHE.

I have sold two Parkers and purchased two so I am even. I sold a nice 12ga PH and nice 12ga GH and purchased two 10's, a CH and a DH. In total I have sold 7 sxs's this year to finance the two higher grade Parkers, a NID Grade 3 Super 10 and a Fox XE 16ga.

Mills;
Congratulations on your new Parkers. However, I'd have a competent Parker 'smith/stocker take a look at the stock head/fit on that GH 12. It's not right, and will eventually lead to a split stock head from recoil. I think I see a bit of kicked up wood already. A bit of glas bedding may be in order. There will be good 'smiths at the Southern. Or... send it to Bachelder's.

I like that name, sounds impressive! Without fear of offending the web guru and those who shoot with their barrels horizontal, last year I bought a "K-20" with 20 & 28 ga. 30" barrels. What a hoot! Not buying any more Parker's for a very very long time.

Well, so far no new Parkers for me this year, but the month of March was very hard on the gun fund.....As you guys know I bought the H&H 28ga hammer gun and while I was on the phone I ended up bidding on a round action 12ga Boss... So while I'm at the Southern I think I had better keep the wallet and checkbook deep, really deep in my pocket, but I'm traveling with Rich and you guys know he can get you into trouble real fast...! :rotf:

I saw somewhere that more guns were sold in March 2018 than any other month on record. I acquired two: a 10 gauge EH in great condition.

The EH is really in great shape for its age and has unique engraving. 32 inch barrels on a 3 frame. Massive gun.

As I told you earlier I talked with the guy you got the EH from earlier . The place Parker Brothers is engraved on the action intrigued me . He sent me pics of the water table and the underside of the barrels on the chamber end and the weight was 6 pounds 3 ounces if my memory serves . I went back later and checked the weights on my 3 frame EH and NH both are 32" and neither weighed 6 pounds . I'm tentatively planning to be at the shoot on Friday if you bring that EH I'd love to look it over .

I bought a circa 1891 EH on a 2 frame with factory 28" barrels from an auction in MA or Conn can't remember which . Sent in an absentee bid and watched the auction on my PC while in a hotel in Manila . My gunsmith buddy took care of payment for me as I'd left funds for him in case I won the auction . I didn't see the gun for almost four weeks after I got it . Wasn't perfect by any means but I'm pleased with what I got !

Other then the Parker the only other thing I've gotten since mid February was a NIB Kimber 1911 Custom II 2 tone in 45 ACP bought it last Friday and had it in hand Monday .

Plan on trying the EH at skeet later today (it is past midnight as I type this) . By the letter the guns choked cylinder and CLOSE which I assume means cyl/IC . Plan on using that 19 grains Red Dot and 1 1/8 ounce shot load .

Rick Losey

i thought "close" meant a tight choke

Dean Romig

"Close" means Full Choke.

You'll do fine on the Skeet field with those chokes.

The barrels on the 10 gauge are positively massive. Mwt 45 just behind the chokes. 50 at the choke

"Close" means Full Choke.
.

In this case I’m not sure I go along with that , I’ll measure tommorrow . However whatever it is it does well enough at Skeet I got 46 out of 50 with the puddin load (19 grains of Red Dot with 1 1/8 ounces of shot ). In the last couple weeks I shot a dozen or so of the 620 grain slugs I cast from the Russian 10 gauge version of the Lyman sabot load . Three from the right made a nice group at 25 yards and the same could be said for three from the left barrel . Their POI between the right and left was maybe 4 inches apart . The old gun also seemed relatively happy with my home cast 0000 Buck at 25 yards . So this coming season if a deer or two wish to commit suicide the old gun just might help them out .

the letter says 'close' and relates to how it left the Parker plant

what it is now - depends on the various ownership since Brothers Parker said goodbye to it

I’m quite aware that a change could have occurred . My letter says for the right barrel that IS cylinder 110 #8 shot in a 24” circle at 45 yards and 190 from the left or “close” barrel also #8’s at 45 yards in a 24” circle . That difference does not say full to me more like IC or possibly M . Now if I could find a factory original EH with 26” barrels

Daryl, a Lefever H grade 20--that would be a sweet little gun, is Damascus or fluid steel--Damascus I hope! What barrel length?
Just sold a very unique little Lefever Durstan Special 20, cause I never ever shot it.

They are fluid steel Harold, 28", Cyl/Full. I'll be shooting it this weekend for the first time on clays. It handled really well chasing pheasants this year, so it already has drawn first blood. I'm very impressed with it. She's coming to Ernie's in June.

Widely different chokes, such as cylinder, or skeet, in bbl one, and tight, as in mod or full in bbl two, paired with double triggers is as close to nirvana as you can get in a field gun, in my humble opinion, of course.
I have a 32" BHE 12 gauge with 6k first bbl, an 40k in the other. This gun is like arsenic on pheasants!

I’ve got a WW Greener boxlick with a tang safety can’t remmember the Grade . Anyway I bought it when I was 15 or 16 . The thing was choked Lite IC and x full , it’s now Lite IC and mod . I killed a veritable pickup load of Dove with that gun .

Charles Hellis is a good maker. 30's will be tough to find but they are out there. Most of them I've seen are 26 and whippy. The full chokes wouldn't pose a problem. What are the dimensions? Perhaps a motivational picture:rotf::rotf:
