Mr. Palmer:
First, I beg to correct your reference. These are both Jones underlever guns.

The J. Squires is one I cannot find in my reference books. However, it appears to be a trade level gun, aimed at the modest pocketbook. That doesn't mean ill. It's made up on a W. & C. Scott action, thousands of which were sold to local 'smiths throughout England. From what I can see, the gun appears in good shape. But I can't see much beyond your photo. I'd guess around $800 to $1000. I might be high...

The second gun may well be Belgian. Again, base level with very little engraving. I'd guess $500 to $800 without seeing more. This might be optimistic, too....

Please keep in mind that the barrel condition - especially inside - means a LOT in value. So does the stock condition. Cracks and splits are serious flaws in these old guns and can quickly reduce the value.

I may consider the Squires. Depends. PM me with any thoughts.

James,

The Internet Gun Club only has brief information on a John and James Squire. They were not in business very long. Their father Thomas was a barrel maker and they followed into his business.

As John stated, you'll need to get barrel measurements and provide more information on the condition to get an estimate.
