I’m longing to shoot something- anything.
Is there any interest in meeting in RI to break some birds?
Of course it’s primarily a New England event but anyone can come. However, I don’t want to impinge on Mr. Suponski’s tune up shoot.
What say you?

George, if you’re looking for something to shoot, anything then Southern Csl is a target rich environment. LOL

George M. Purtill

The best days for me are the 17/18 or 24/25. Those are Saturday/Sundays.
I would say we pick a Saturday and have the Sunday as a backup.

Dean Romig
02-26-2018, 12:53 PM
That works for me. You guys pick a Saturday - I'm flexible.

I apologize to all for not responding quicker but I am not getting emails that people are posting to threads I have subscribed to. I guess JD hates me.
So... how about the 24th?

Don't get back from Costa Rica until 3/25 so the 24th won't work for me but it looks good for most everyone else so I wouldn't change the date. I'll try to catch the next one

I'll have to wait until the April shoot as I have a work event that day. I would really rather be at Addieville than work...have fun!

Russell E. Cleary
03-04-2018, 10:14 PM
The silver lining if I get laid off or fired is that I would be able be there. But, as of now I am scheduled to be at work. So, as Sam Goldwin used to say, “you can include me out”.

I'll wait for the April shoot and hopefully I won't have to work that day at Redtop. If the stripers show up early in the Canal, I know we'll be busy.

Shooting always begins at 9 a.m. at Addieville.

Sorry for the late reply. I am not getting consistently the email notifications.
I have a call in to Jack to confirm conditions and start times but we usually start at 9 with a safety talk at 845.
We pay when we are done shooting.

George M. Purtill
03-20-2018, 01:41 PM
No answer on phone, left two messages- still waiting for a reply.
As soon as I hear I will post.

George M. Purtill
03-21-2018, 09:18 AM
I am a dope- they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
I just chatted with them.
They expect to be cleared out from our snowfall so we can shoot Saturday.
I told them we would be there at 8:30 so Jack can give us the safety talk at 8:45 and we can get off shooting at 9:00.
If we have at least 12 we will get the member rates.
Watch the weather.
Maybe our RI members can give us the best heads up.

Dean Romig

I'll have to back out guys, with apologies.

My daughter's stove gave up the ghost yesterday and we bought her a new one today...
I'll be installing it on Saturday morning. It shouldn't take long to connect the gas line, check for leaks and level the stove but it will take just long enough to keep me from going to Addieville.

Ok guys. We will have four from NH. We will arrive about 9:30 AM., Steve

Myself, Bill Janell, my friend Bud Salmon and Bob Fabian

Larry Frey

George,
I will be there but suggest that if the NH crew will not be there until 9:30 perhaps we should wait and start after they arrive.

Frank Cronin

I called today to ask the conditions of the course and if the golf carts can be used.

All good to go!

Frank Cronin

Chris T and a few friends from work will also be there.

Dean, we need to milk the cows, clean the barn, chop the wood, fill the wood stoves, shovel the snow, feed the animals, gather the eggs, and boil the sap as it is maple season...............................do the laundry and clean the house as we are all renaissance men, our work never ends up here.

Dean Romig
03-24-2018, 07:15 PM
Well...... How was it?

It was terrible. The weather was awful. Hodges had brought no guns so we had to loan him guns and ammo. Jannell Shot lousy as usual. I shot with Larry and Russell Cleary and thank god I beat Larry by one bird or it would have been a long ride to the Cape.
I’m happy we had all those NH boys for entertainment.

Dean Romig
03-24-2018, 07:39 PM
They are funny aren't they?
I feel bad for them, havin' to do all them chores before they can go out and play.

The “Shoot Something—Anything” extended-Winter, ad hoc, shoot was a most enjoyable get-together. Good weather and good course conditions.

Thanks go to all involved and especially George P. for putting it together.

Looking forward to the Addieville Spring Fun Shoot.

Dean:

And, in memoriam, there were at least two superb Brad Batchelder-restored guns brought, shown and shot there.

But, enough about guns and shooting. How’d things go with the stove installation?

George M. Purtill

Setting aside my smart a— answer , we had a great time. Jack is a great guy and it was great to see everyone.

I feel bad that I did not take a group picture. Or any pictures in fact. Did anyone?

I thought it would be a thirty-minute job but it turned into almost three hours.

I had to convert it from natural gas to LP gas. Changed all the jets and made several air mixture adjustments and had to remove a few panels and baffles to get to the oven manifold jet and adjust that for LP.
Probably the most time-consuming part was disconnecting the gas line from the old stove which was waaaaay over tightened. I finally had to put vise-grips on the flare nut ans slip my 20" length of 12 ga. Shotgun barrel over the vise-grip handle to use as a breaker bar.

A real PITA... but that's what we do for our kids.

We had a great time. Awesome to see most of everyone again.

Due to recent events, I decided to bring my Syracuse Quality Three LC Smith 10 gauge that Brad Bachelder did work on and in memory of him. He restored the barrels and the case colors.

She's a monster. Extra heavy frame, 10.6lbs, 32" barrels, and choked very tight for those long shots. This is also the earliest found Syracuse Q3 in the chronology of surviving LC Smith shotguns.
