There is a new PGCA web site addition I would like to point out to the PGCA members. Take a look at the "Membership" link found at the top of the link list on the left side of our home page. About half way down the Membership page is a GEO map of our PGCA membership. Click on it and check it out:corn: Read the text around it for info on how to use it.

This is very cool! I have already located a member here in my hometown that I didn't know, and there is also one member near our home on an island in Washington State. What a great feature.

Now if I can just locate that membership roster around here somewhere, I would then know their names..... :rotf:

Thanks for pointing this out, Robin!

We Canadians need to go on a membership drive! We're way under represented. Hard to believe that basically from Detroit west to the Rocky Mountains through some of the best bird hunting in the world we only have 3 members. And only a dozen in the entire country? Cool mapping feature though.

Robin, you continue to impress us with your innovations to benefit PGCA members.

Robin,
The map works very nice. As I understand it, the only way to identify who the actual member is tied to the membership number would be to go to the Roster that is sent out. Unfortunately it is listed alphabetically, so unless the list is available digitally, allowing the user to sort by member number order, it is a tedious task to locate the member identity.
Any hints here, have I missed something?

No, you didn't miss anything, sorry. But, since I joined the privacy of who owns and where they live is a touchy issue. Given that I didn't want to upset that I did the best I could with what I had.

Sorry.

An Excel file would need to be set up with name and member number which can be formatted to allow a search by either name or number..... NO - I am NOT suggesting Robin take this on... He has done way more than enough and given more than enough of his personal time to tasks that are not his responsibility... After all, he doesn’t get paid for what he does for the organization.

Dean,
If the listing is available digitally, I will take a shot at converting it to a suitable file.

Keavin, that would be an enormous task to create such a file from scratch.

The thing is, it would need to be a fluid file that should be periodically altered to allow for new members being included and members who have dropped out scrubbed from the file.

Further, such a file must only be made available in the Members Only section of our forum.

I'll present the possibility to our BOD

An MS Access contacts management database would be the way to go. The database would give the functionality of adding/removing members via forms, tracking membership status, searchability with pre-determined queries, and various reporting features such as telephone/email rosters etc. A locked down version could be made available to all members for viewing/searching.

A membership database might be better served if it were emailed to current members on an annual basis rather than residing on this forum.

And, I am not suggesting Robin take this on either. This is something I could assist with if the BOD is interested.

Thanks Michael. But we don't want to get ahead of ourselves on this.

Granted, an electronic file would save us printing costs if the BOD determined this is the way to go. It could be the same Membership Roster we receive with the Fall Issue of Parker Pages and there is nothing especially sensitive about that one.... and it is derived from an Excel spread sheet... so we already have one. All we have to do is tweak it the way we want it. Problem is - not all of our members are online... probably 15% are not.

If it's already in Excel, the hardest part of tbe task is already done.

I see that Alaska only has 4 members and that I really am the northernmost member. Am wondering who member #56 is in Anchorage. I have a suspicion who it is but can't be sure. Whoa. Just pulled out the roster and it took about 15 seconds to find #56. Don't know him.

I'll have to get that lonely dot in northern Alberta moved to become the only dot in Manitoba. I'm about half moved to the new place.

Member #56 must have joined in the first year of the PGCA.
