10ga Day at our our Marsh

Any load/reload data you guy's would care to share? I'm thinking I'd try a bismuth recipe from the short ten data page posted on the forum and any help would be useful. I'm using 2 nice sort ten's, a Greener and a Abbey both with laminated barrels and around 9 pounds weight. Hammer guns with 30 and 32 inch barrels . Excellent condition and great fun to use on the clays course. I'd like to try them in the field.

FWIW i ran across my hunting load data about 20 years ago in "Handloader Magazine" Ross Seyfried had an article about favourite loads and one happened to be for a W&C Scott 10 gauge . At the time my maternal grandfather had an identical gun . So I salted that magazine away just in case I ever decided to load for his gun . I also had an Ithaca NID Grade 2 Super 10 but had never had much inclanation to shoot the Ithaca .

Nine years ago my grandfather passed and his collection was passed to me . So one of the first things I did was pick up a nice new MEC 600JR in 10 gauge when I visited Ron Shirk .

Now to the load Seyfried said use a Remington case trimmed of course CCI or WIN 209 primer , 30 grains of SR7625 a Remington SP-10 wad with a 16 gauge 1/8" nitro wad in the bottom of the shotcup with 1 1/4 ounces shot and a overshot card on top for good measure with a regular folded crimp . I've used that basic load for birdshot , buckshot and slugs although for the slugs and the really large buckshot I trim the petals from the wad and use a mylar wrap .

So when I decided to chase the big white black and grey birds I again used the same charge the same wad and weighed 1 1/4 ounces of Bismuth #1 and put in the overshot card . With the bulkier shot I didn't need the little spacer wad . Shot the pattern board at 40 yards with my W&C Scott as well as a Greener I just sold , my Ithaca and 5 different Parker 10's . And I'm sure you'll think I'm lying but they all patterned well .
