To all that enjoy fly fishing----a must is to own one of Austin's fly fishing books on the topic of fly tying and fishing.
The book is being distributed by Daniel & Joanna Cote' of Double Gun Journal.

I received mine yesterday. An amazing history of Austin S. Hogan (our Austin's father) and fly-fishing in the Northeast from some of the earlier decades of the last century.
I will have a color advertisement in the Winter Issue of Parker Pages - it didn't quite make it into the Fall Issue which is being mailed today.
This has been nearly a life-long project for Austin W. and I remember about five or six years ago as Kathy and I were driving the gravel road in to Ernie Hausmann's we met Austin driving out to pick up Pam at her relative's home. We chatted for a few minutes and I could see he was pretty excited. He said, "Dean, I've finished the manuscript for my book." upon which he lifted it from the seat beside him and showed me a couple of pages.
This book is handsomely printed and published using the highest quality of materials and inks. It is every bit as nicely published as "The Parker Story" which was also published by Double Gun Journal.
497 pages of fly-fishing wonderment! To Austin - and I hope he's looking down smiling - I say Congratulations on the completion of your dream!

Ditto.
Wow, I had no idea. He obviously knew/fished with some of the Catskills' legends. A man consumed by untold passions, quite a guy.:bowdown:

I be on one of those legendary Catskills streams again soon. Maybe I can get a copy soon enough for evening reading
Really. Thanks I may well have missed this one

Sometimes I'm not sure which I love the most, hunting with a classic side x side shotgun or fishing with a bamboo fly rod. Fortunately I can do both. Can't wait to add this book to the library. John Davis

It is well-worth the price. I'm also going to order the trade edition as a "loaner".

The Double Gun Journal is first class all the way. I have ordered a lot of their books and DVD's and it is all great. Wild River Press is another great company

Dean, you're a better man than I, or at least a braver one. I normally don't loan ANY of my books, let alone one that costs me over a hundred bucks .

I only loan my books to trusted friends.
I learned my lesson years ago when I loaned a book that I had borrowed from a good friend.
The book never came back and I spent years trying to find an exact replacement of "Death of a River Keeper" by Ernie Schweibert... signed by Schweibert. The book had been a favorite of my friend's and in the meantime I gave him an unsigned copy but I knew it wasn't good enough. So, my search began and it was an expensive search.

I guess you just have better friends than I. I've been trying to compile my list and so far so one's on it......

Just received my copy today; haven't had time to do much more than look it over, but it's certainly another first-class offering from the folks at DGJ. For what it's worth, it gets my recommendation!

I'm about 1/3 of the way into it.
I am blown away by the knowledge of both Austin S. and Austin W. - just incredible!

For those who thought they might get a copy but haven't yet... Daniel tells me he still has some and can fill your orders so you'll have it for some fine reading by the fire this winter.

I know the feeling . My grouse hunting partner thirty years ago wanted to borrow my signed and dated copy of George Bird Evans dog training book . And I’ve never seen it again .

Fly fishing and shotgunning are my only truly necessary "mental food groups"; pretty much everything else in life is a side show for me....

There are still some trade copies of "Austin S. Hogan, Fly Tyer and First Curator of the American Museum of Fly Fishing" available from the publisher, Double Gun Journal.

Maybe you guys need to adopt a policy like the Library of Congress' interlibrary loaner program; you can read the book in your local library but can't take it from the premises :)!
