View Full Version : Why so many??

I'm leaving Wednesday for the Duluth Double Gun shoot. This is basically a two day affair with ALL the competition done on Saturday. There is a sporting clays course (quite a nice one actually) a pigeon ring, All bore course (a 30 target version of sporting clays) and a 5 stand. There are enough side games to keep ones interest up.

I'm going through the guns I want/need to take and why are there so many??? It's worse than a woman's shoe closet. On the list are three tight choked 12's, a DH and a BHE live bird guns and a 32 inch Fox CE for the long bird courses. I'll shoot the main event (SC course) with the 32 inch BHE 20. On the all bore course there is a hammer gun event and I've won it twice with the 20ga Boss so that's going. The pigeon ring is a glorified 5 stand and it can be shot with a skeet gun at least in the past so the 16ga Hollywood gun is going just for that as will a DHE 30 inch vent rib 20 depending on what I'm shooting better with at the time. There's another long barreled 16 I'm considering taking as well. That's 8 guns in 3 gauges for two days of shooting. I generally shoot all I take but this but this is getting ridiculous:eek:

Elmer Keith used to say 'Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.' Just food for thought. Mark

I don't think it is ridiculous. A little finesse never hurts. BTW, hands-up out there if you only have one gun. Cheers, Jack

Why so many? Because you've got so many!

Personally, I'm trying to limit it to just two guns at Duluth this year -- a little 28-ga. 26" IC/M Repro to see if I can take advantage of the handicap birds given in the SC and 5-Stand events and my new-to-me 12-ga. D-Grade hammergun for the pigeon ring for which I've got some spreaders loaded up for the gun's IM left barrel.

If you can do it with only two guns you will be my new hero:rotf: I'm leaving the Lefever and the grade 3 16ga hammer gun home...tough decisions:banghead:

If you decide your under gunned come on over I'll be able to fix you up:whistle:

Actually, I could easily get by with just one gun -- by taking my Sporting Clays Classic Repro -- my nominee for most versatile doublegun on the planet. However, I'm quite sure the two I am taking will be adequate, but thanks for the offer anyway.

You never know if that passel of guns you're hauling up will be enough either. So it's a good thing that Puglisi's is nearby, eh?

For the all gauge event, you forgot to pack the 28 ga AHE and the Fox 410...... You are starting to forget things, glad I'm here to remind you.

I buy-em to shoot-em. They all get used either on clays or behind the Labs although I have my favorites. Like Rich, I'll pack 8-10 guns to a shoot and if I'm shooting locally usually 2-3.
Just think how boring it would be if we all just brought just brought 1 gun to Hausmann's for 3 days of show and tell. Blah!

Daryl, I agree completely with both you Rich about bringing multiple guns to shoot, show and tell for 3 or 4 day shoots. However, Duluth is a little different as it's basically a one day of competition shoot. Shooters may get in a couple of side events on Friday and maybe on Sunday forenoon and that's about it. In addition, I'm travelling to the shoot with two others riding in a single SUV - not a pickup truck. We simply don't have room for each of us to bring a bunch guns and the various gauges of shells for those guns.

Having said the above, maybe I could ask my travelling companions to leave their guns and shells at home in order to allow more room for me to bring 8-10 guns. I could explain to them that Daryl and Rich shamed me into asking.
What do you think, you think that'll work? :glug:

Rich I'm proud of you but remember you gave up 2 guns to me and if I didn't live so far away you would probably swing down to Tx on your way to Duluth and borrow those 2. Lucky you didn't buy my 20 ga hammergun or look what else you would be hauling. I catch sooo much crap from my O/U dove buddies when I haul 6-8 guns on a three day shoot but they're just jealous because they can buy their shells at Walmart and I have to pack my especial shells. besides I view my guns like I have a kennel of dogs and by God they need to get exercise or why keep them kenneled up!!! Hell I'll take my own car if they complain too much. Good for you I salute the Muliigunner man.

Greg you can tell Len I said it was ok for you to bring 6 guns no more. If you can't use em don't get them. I'll be visiting a friend in Wisconsin for a week of grouse hunting and were talking guns already. So far I'm at 10:shock: Bear in mind that when I leave there I go to my place in the U.P. for another 3 weeks or so. A grouse gun in the am and a different one in the afternoon, it's a rule at COB"S Camp:rotf:

Greg;
We have to talk. Rich, Eric and I have perfected the multi-gun pack and ride. Stop in and see our set-up either at Ernie's or Drake Landing next year. I can comfortably pack 10-12 guns, 3 dogs with all their gear and two guys for a week long trip to SD to hunt birds and waterfowl.

Daryl is amazing he not only carries a bunch of guns but he has a full service gun cleaning station, a mini vet hospital, wet bar, cigar humidor in the back of his Suburban. He is Mr. Invincible!!!! Besides being perfectly outfitted Daryl is one of the best guys you could ever hunt with.

Thanks Craig. You are right up there with the best hunting partners I've ever hunted with besides, you bring along Rick and his mobile wine cellar.

You're gonna need a bigger truck.

No value to this thread of course but the mention of Puglisi's guns caught my attention. How in the world do they take photos that make a gun, any gun look so good? Could almost make Rosie O look good, almost.

Is it just warm lighting?

Why so many guns? Would not most of us benefit from a more level expense : use ratio?
