How are things coming along with the Simmons hammer gun barrels? I notice that nothing is being said about the availability of these barrels on the Simmons website. Let's have a progress report.

Bill - I too was hoping Simmons would have something on the website discussing this since they had the ad in the PP. I discussed a project with them in June and was told if I got the gun to them in July it would be ready in December. That's all I can tell you.

I talked to Simmons yesterday and they said my barrel is on schedule. I'll let ya'll know when it arrives, with pictures. Mine is a VH, not a hammer barrel.

Cheers, Tom

I can't remember what you are having made, Tom. Want to share your project with us?

Hi Bill,

Glad to share. I'm having a 28" mod-full barrel made for my VHE. The ship date is (?) August 16th, I think. I'll give a full report with pictures when it arrives. Yes, I'm excited. Cheers, Tom

This is my project gun - 16 gauge O-frame fishtail TL to get 32" 20 gauge barrels. I just finished the wood; it looked like it had lived behind the barn door for about 100 years. Bores look like the surface of the moon.

Nice job Ed, what is the serial number?

Oh, I see - 78791, that's about a year newer than the ones I have.

Judging by yours and mine and several others I've looked at, PB put some doggone nice wood on those early 0 & 1 Grades.

John, what are your specs? OK, I'll send one out. I have the nice little straight grip 0 frame hammer gun with NO barrels. What was I thinking when I didn't join the first group?

Gary - that will be a nice addition. Simmons will put a number of worthy guns back in the field with this product.

Gents, - I was in Simmons gun shop yesterday afternoon, and spoke with Mr. Jim Wright with regard to his schedule on the barrels.. He has orders for 28 sets of barrels as of right now, and just got a call yessterday for possibly 15 more sets.. They are on the cusp of fabricating and will have a rep at the Vintagers for discussion and review.I saw a goodly number of barrels in the rough, and their CNC fellow spoke of getting started right away. I have every reason to believe that their product will be well worth waiting for, and not long as it now stands. Charles A. Herzog Sr.

Thanks Charlie. Simmons will also be at the Southern Side By Side Fall Classic here in Georgetown October 22-24 with samples and I believe demonstrator guns for potential customers to shoot. Cheers, Tom

I just talked to Reggy at Simmons and they are on target to have my 28ga 30" and my 16ga 30" barrels done for my O frame hammergun. I hope to have the gun back but Sept 1st. I also had some engraving done and as usual it is behind schedule.

Guys do they require an existing set of barrels in order to make the new set you want? I wonder how that will impact guys like me who dont have an existing set of barrels for the gun we are going to send.

Mr. Murphy my specs are always for 34" barrels. I now have a very nice #1 frame d grade top lever (thanks to a special friend :)) that I would like to have a set of 34" 20 gauge barrels fitted to it and then maybe one day 34" 16 gauge barrels.

John - Reggie at Simmons said he needs the old barrels to take measurements from so the new barrels will have the same contour. Plus they need the measurement to the front lug so the forearm will fit the new set. I asked him if they would use the old dollshead since my legacy barrels are too pitted to shoot. He said they make a new dollshead. Everything from soup to nuts.

Does anyone know if Simmons will have a complete barrel for review at the Vintage Cup?

Mr. Carter,

If you get yours my Aug 16th will you be bringing it to Pintail?
