This is Memorial Day weekend the beginning of summer. As we fire up the grills and cover them with burgers, hot dogs and steak and enjoy the freedoms that come with being a citizen of the USA please take a moment and raise a glass to all our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so we can enjoy the privileges that we do.

I offer my humble thanks to all those that have served and especially to the fallen and their families:bowdown::bowdown:.

Well said Rich, we should all take a moment to thank The Good Lord for giving us this's brace Patriots and their families. And take the time to thank a Vet. God Bless America

Yup, thank me. 11-1-67 to 10-31-69 active duty U. S. Army plus four more years of reserve duty when I avoided the Postman. To be a bit more serious, when are we going to return to the draft if we want to be in this thing?

I would hope we can reinstate the draft in times of national crisis, but until such time, we have a volunteer military force.

I doubt the military would take some of todays youth. I was in the last group from Michigan to be drafted, the cut off number was 90 and mine was 87. At the time I wasn't a big fan but it was a great learning experience in more ways than one. There is no better gang to be a member of than the US Military.

It was our Father's and their Father's who showed us what men really were. I volunteered to go back into the service after 9/11 and one year grew into 8 and finally retired with a total of 41 years of service; guard, reserve and active combined and my bag is still packed but my service doesn't compare to the war years of our fathers. Thank a vet and always remember the fallen. who never made it home. God Bless them and their families, they are the true heroes.

One great writer had it in a nutshell:

"In times of war and not before,
God and the soldier we adore.
But in times of peace and all things righted,
God is forgotten and the soldier slighted."

-Rudyard Kipling

People don't think of the soldier or the policeman for that matter until someone else is trying to take something away from them.
