Now, and for the next 6-8 weeks or so, we flyfishers are coming into primetime. I'm looking forward to it with great anticipation. How about you?

Coincidentally Greg, this little (probably best imitated on a size 18 or even 20) male baetis (speckled dun) was waiting for me this morning when I plunked myself down in my Tacoma. I think it was an omen..... that, or he was trying out for my 'totem spirit.' (he'll have some stiff competition from my woodcock totem...;)

If our streams ever return to within their banks.
I would love to get out
Even tea colored would be better than the current chocolate milk look

Uggggghhh. Looks like another suck-o weekend for the Nutmeg State. Seems we've been cursed ever since the Addieville Shoot! Thanks OP!! Traditionally, May is when I perform my best H&H impersonations:
Hens and Hendricksons!! :corn:

Our first big mayfly on the Au Sable (Mich) is the Hendrickson. It's on now. Leaving for the cabin in the morning

The "Hendrickson" (ephemerella subvaria) is one of the very first mayflies to hatch here in the Northeast. Certainly not an ephemera of freestone rivers and streams. The nymphs much prefer the mud and detritus of slower moving streams and the bottoms of ponds.
I have tied the imitations both with spun chestnut dyed rabbit fur and a gray dun wing, that or a grey dyed CDC wing.
Also known as the "Red Quill" tied in the "Catskill" style with a stripped red quill body and a dun colored hackle wing tied in that classic style.
The nymphal stage is best imitated with a spun chestnut dyed rabbit fur body (much like the gold-ribbed hare's ear but more slender) with splayed brown hackle points for the tails and a thorax of gray mallard wing case.
Oops...here I go with my other obsession...

Caught this one trying to break through the screen porch side door this morning but luckily was able to stop him before he wreaked havoc on the Mother's Day preps!!
