At that price for tents, Julias should offer the gun with one included.

Easily the finest A-1 20ga I have ever seen. If you see it in person, you can appreciate how good it really is.

I looked this little beauty all over, wow not too many of them made, and though not perfect, there is no replacement. Wonderful A#1 Special.

Catalogs will be out around 3/15/2017. I don't think the description has been written on that yet. Once it's done I can post it here.

The estimate is $125k-$200k. For a collector who demands the very best, here it is.

After reading the thread about how dismal the selling outlook is, this will be interesting. Before reading that thread I would have guessed $120 - $170 but now ????

Dean, you mention how you would be all over a 28 ga A1 Special. Are you familiar with the "Little Persuader". I've only seen pictures of it in the Bonarms Auction Catalog dating back to the mid 1990's. Story is that Parker Bros. kept it in their New York Retail Store to influence sales, thus the name "Little Persuader". This gun, in my opinion, is the Holy Grail of Parker Guns.

Forgot to mention that it Sold for $100,000.00

Bill Jaqua bought the gun. It was written up in the WSJ as a breakthrough in collectibles as investments. The gun was resold within about a month. From what I heard, not only did that gun put Jaqua's and gun collecting on center stage, but he turned a handsome profit on the gun also

Not an A1 but not six figures either still a pretty nice 28 and a two barrel set. Dean you could shoot some Grouse with this one:) 26 inch Parker barrels IC/M and a set of 28 inch barrels from James Purdey choked M/F.

C.O.B, has the DAC and DAH been messed with? Looks like wood may have been taken off the top of the stock.

Dean Romig

Yes Tommy, I am familiar with "The Little Persuader" and it certainly is a 'Holy Grail' but I have a distinct soft spot for 150677 which is shown as a SG 28" 28 gauge AAHE but it is actually an original two-gauge (28/20) two-barrel set with some wonderful provenance. It will be included in an article sometime soon.

Chuck that's the way the gun was stocked. It has a small Monte Carlo comb.

The checkering pattern on that particular A1 is bananas!

I think the checkering on 239280, page 370 of TPS is the ultimate in complexity.

Does anyone know what the stamping to the left of the barrel weight represents?

Dean Romig
02-12-2017, 10:41 AM
Well, if the barrels were Whitworth there would be a W in that location so I'll guess that stamp might have something to do with Peerless Steel. I wish those stamps were more defined.
I'm sure somebody with more experience than I have in the high grades will come on and solve that question.

The gun is listed as a "P8" so it has to have Peerless Steel barrels.

I think the down turn in prices is only affecting guys like you and me, but the real money guys are still out there for special things like this. It will be interesting and a benchmark for great collectible shotguns when it goes across the block.:corn:

I don't know, I have a great 16ga on the for sale section that has gone without interest. I assume it is because of my asking price and the precieved "down turn" we discussed. Nobody has challanged the price and tried to "dicker" for it which, is why I want to watch this one sell. I hope I'm  in a good way.

Robin, That lifter is a fabulous gun. I can't believe you still have it....

Rich Anderson
02-12-2017, 12:33 PM
There is always someone out there with more zero's in their checkbook than they know what to do with. Unfortunately I'm not one of them. I was once told it's easier to buy a gun than to sell one and it's easier to sell a $5000 gun vs a $50,000 gun. The trick is to get one of the more well heeled buyers interested in the gun you have to sell. The more specialized or rare the gun the smaller the available pool of buyers.
