GB, http://www.gunbroker.com/item/618322210, interesting gun. I have no financial interest in it. Also think it is somewhat overpriced. The interesting thing is that it appears to combine Grade 2 sideplates and hammers, with Grade 1 frame, barrels, forend, and stock. Yet the seller says all numbers match. Could it be a custom engraving job? If so, why limit it to only the sideplates and hammers? If it were one of the square frame bolsters sent back for cracking and frame replacement, and they replaced the cracked Grade 2 frame with a Grade 1 frame, it wouldnt have the Grade 1 matching barrels, forend and stock. Who knows. A letter might shed some light, but I'm not that interested. Other thoughts?

That is a grade 1. There is also a grade 1 check hook lifter an Gunauction.com for sale by Hanson & Hanson in CT. same set up

The subject gun on Gunbroker has been on there for a LONG time. Not sure why. The gun has some condition and the price is not terribly out of whack, i think.

The lock "engraving" is actual roll stamping. Grade ones had this for a short time as Parker was playing with the use of it. It did not last terribly long.

I learn something every day. Never seen that roll stamped sideplate before, but the GunAuction listing is identical, if in much poorer shape. Thanks for the input.

Nice gun, a bit close to the high end of pricing. Gauge? Is the seller sure it is a 12?

"very nice 12ga Parker Bros Lifter Hammer Gun, 0 grade, #2 Frame, 30" Damascus twist steel barrels, drop at comb 2", heel 3", lop 14 3/8" front trigger, 13 1/2" rear trigger, weight 8 1/2 lbs. #s match, appears to be all original."

Rarely does a GB description give you all that, just missing wall thickness and choke constriction to be a full set

That is a very nice Parker. Every time I have looked at that listing for the past couple of years (or more) I have been very tempted to make an offer.

I have to agree with Dean and others; I think it's a very nice gun. My only complaint would be the corn cob checkering. If that was a one frame, it would be at home in my gun room.

I kinda like Grade-1 "corn cob" checkering. :corn:

Why does it need to go to an FFL? Obviously an antique?

Why does it need to go to an FFL? Obviously an antique?

I see the firearms to FFL boilerplate statement - nothing from the seller

the seller may or may not be willing to ship direct - the buyer would need to ask

some sellers insist - its their choice

Dave, Many states have passed their own legislation that essentially states that if a firearm can chamber "readily available ammunition" it must be treated as a modern firearm. New York, and their "Safe Act" was one of them, and I found out, first hand, that VA is another. Unless a seller knows every state's (constitutionally correct is another subject entirely) legislation, he may be taking the conservative approach, and treating all the same.
Even C&R licensees have lost the ability to directly receive guns, which the BATFE has already determined to be C&R eligible, directly from either an FFL, or private individual in those states. Many of these states are facing challenges in the courts, and it's entirely possible all these punitive regulations will be thrown out.

from the NYSAFE FAQ page

Antique Guns & Magazines
Q: Is there any exception for historic or antique guns and magazines?
A: Yes, they are exempt from the prohibition against transfer, but if the gun qualifies as an assault weapon or the magazine holds over ten rounds it must be registered.

Yes rick, the safe act defines antiques the same way that batf does.

Being an hour away from Dutchess County, I do most of my shopping over there. CT has even more paperwork.
The language is ambiguous at best, and BSA, Safari, and one other (Macys does not tell Bloomingdales, and I don't reveal all my favorite either), will still have you do a 4473
