I think he is alright just retiring. He said he was going to finish what he has but was not taking anymore. He said he could not find any help. Nobody wants to work the second shift. His words not mine.

I talked to him also last weekend and he said the same thing to me.
I just bought my first Damascus barreled Parker a week or so ago that had the barrels refinished by Dale and it was definitely a beautiful job.

Dale did many barrel sets for me. All were superb.
And now his retirement opens another void in the panoply of gentleman/craftsmen that has developed over the past few years. I hope there will be good men to replace them all.
Especially Dale Edmonds.

Yes, i spoke with Dale last night myself. He had previously expressed to me that he was starting to have difficulty with his process. And he had recommended me to find anither source for Damascus finshing. And i guess things have recently come to a head.
Dale's expertise and quality of work in this field will be missed.

His abilities will be missed for sure. He refinished a few sets of barrels for me in the past - the most striking was this set of Bernard barrels.

I spoke to him last week to see how he was doing and just to check on my DH barrels. Sometime mid-year last year I sent him a set of barrels and at that time he said one person had sent him fourteen sets about the same time. Probably not one person's but work being farmed out to him in my opinion.
So one can see that it there is no way one man can keep up with the workload.

Dale did a set of barrels for me on a 16 ga German Sauer & Sohn: They turned out beautifully. He is/was a real master of his craft.

Iam sorry to hear that Mr. Edmunds has decided to retire. For years he has provided a vital service to the Restoration community. I fully understand the difficulties of the process as well as the dedication needed to deliver consistant results. I wish him well. I for one can say that his beautifull craftsmanship will be missed.

Years ago he did some Parker barrels for me - came out very nice. Then I found out about Brad Bachelder who also does very nice work. Brad was only about two hours drive away, so I had him do all my other barrels seeing how I don't trust shipping them. You have real problems with a gun and not the right barrels. And I get to see some real nice SxS's for sale and the beautiful Damascus barrels he's redone.
