Always the first weekend in June isn't it
Dean Romig
01-03-2017, 01:05 PM
Ernie still has the announcement for the 2016 SXS Classic up on his website - which leads us to presume he hasn't locked everything in place yet, e.g., vendors, sponsors, exhibitors, etc.

Gentlemen,
The PGCA has 20 rooms blocked at the Comfort Inn in Vestal NY at last years group rate of $99.95 per night for the dates of May 31st thru June 3rd. There is a mix of Kings and Doubles and reservations must be made by May 15th or any remaining rooms will be put up for sale at regular rates. This is a pet friendly hotel for a one time fee of $25.00. The number for the hotel is 607-729-6371 and mention the Parker Gun Collectors for the group rate.
Larry Frey
02-01-2017, 05:48 PM
Gentlemen,
It has been pointed out to me that I listed the Comfort Inn when in reality it's the Quality Inn in Vestal that we usually stay at. The phone number and rate shown is correct for the Quality Inn and thank you Chuck for noticing the error.

how many days/nights do you stay?
Robin Lewis
02-17-2017, 08:46 AM
I usually stay Friday & Saturday nights. Some add thursday so they can be there part of Thursday and the entire day Friday. I get up early and drive down Friday AM and try to arrive well before noon.
Dean Romig
02-17-2017, 09:01 AM
A few of us drive out on Thursday morning to shoot the "Rock" and stay Thurs through Sat nights.

02-17-2017, 09:05 AM
Allan,
The shoot used to be Friday thru Sunday and we would stay Friday and Saturday nights and drive home Sunday. They moved the days up a couple of years ago so the shooting and festivities are now Thursday thru Saturday. I plan to drive out Thursday am and return home Saturday after the main event.

A few of us camp. It is relaxing. I leave work Wed at noon and get to HH around 6:30. I stay W, Th, F, nights and go home Sat afternoon. Get to shoot all day Th-F, and some on Sat. It certainly has become a favorite of mine.
If it would look like a lot of rain, I would probably stay in Vestal.

Gents, We are in need of a volunteer or two to set up the PGCA display at Ernie's. I have been doing this for a bunch of years and I am at a point that I would like to just show up and enjoy the weekend without having to worry about the display. As they say its time to pass the torch. New faces and new ideas are the future of the PGCA. I have everything that is needed. So if you have an interest in increasing your involvement in the PGCA please send me a PM and we can work out the details.
Dean Romig
03-08-2017, 09:12 PM
You're right Dave, we need some new interest. We need some new volunteers - it's not hard at all either, heck if enough guys pitch in to help out nobody gets stuck in the booth for more than a few hours each day. There's really not much to it. Just remember, you are the face of the PGCA and we like to make friends.
If any of you new volunteers need any advice or tips on manning the booth just contact Dave or me or Larry, or Josh or.... just ask.
(One of the benefits to being in the PGCA booth is that every once in a while somebody stops by with Uncle Bill's or Grampy's old Parker to ask about it and get informed.)
.
Dave Suponski
03-20-2017, 11:18 AM
Bringing this to the top. We have received no replies for volunteers. This is unfortunate as there will be no PGCA display unless we can find willing members to commit for the good of the group.
Harold Lee Pickens
03-20-2017, 08:17 PM
Dave, I am willing to give some time/ assistance. I plan on getting in Wed eve to camp if weather conditions are good.
Dean Romig
03-20-2017, 08:56 PM
Thanks very much Harold!
But you'll need help - OK, who else would be willing to pitch in some fun hours in the PGCA booth "for the good of the order"?

Dave Suponski made the statement and request on page 3 of this thread that we need somebody to set up the Parker Gun Collectors Assoc. booth and tables at Hausmann's Hidden Hollow this year. This means simply spreading our tablecloths on three tables, hanging the banner over the rear of the PGCA area, putting some guns on a few racks you bring (or if you have no racks or stands, just lay them neatly on the table), membership applications, a bunch of past issues of Parker Pages as hand-outs, a Serialization book to use as a reference when someone stops by to check if his gun is original or altered..... not much more than that guys, and being available or making sure that someone is in the booth at all times. This could be a group effort if a few of you would just put your heads together and come up with a simple plan.
You can contact Dave Suponski for pointers and to tell him where to send the package with our three PGCA tablecloths so that you can set up the booth like it has been done in the past.
Dave won't be able to make it to Hausmann's this year and Larry Frey and I will not be arriving until late morning on Friday and we'll be leaving on Saturday after the main event has gone off.
It's time for a changing of the guard fellas.... or else the PGCA booth will be a vacant space this year.
Please step forward and continue to make the PGCA visible at Hausmann's again this year.
Thank You!
.

Dean, I am planning on getting into Ernies Wed eve and set up camp--so if I have those things I can certainly get them set up Thurs morn. Never fear, the PGCA will be represented--well, maybe not as well as in the past. I am going to PM you my cell number--will be easier to work out the details that way.
Looking forward to seeing/shooting with everyone.
Dean Romig
05-20-2017, 09:04 PM
Thanks very much Harold. You won't be alone in this endeavor - several others have said they will spend time at our tables. I hope you can get some help setting up - it's not hard but will be easier with two or three people placing the tables and spreading the tablecloths, etc.
The PGCA is one of the finest shotgun collecting organizations in the country, if not the world, and it is staffed and operated totally by volunteers, and that makes us very special.
Again, thank you Harold for taking the lead and a big thanks to everyone else who will be helping out at the PGCA tables.
Best, Dean

It sounds like we're in for a really good time!
I would ask one really BIG favor...
Please don't toss bones or any kind of garbage in the edge of the woods or in the field. They attract varmints, but more importantly, we like to let our dogs run loose in the field and in the edges there. Pork bones and chicken bones will splinter badly and can cause serious choking issues and perforated bowels in dogs. So please put these kinds of refuse in proper containers and pack them out.
Thanks very much guys!

I had a great time again this year but it seemed to me attendance was noticeably lower. I am sure Ernie has some firm numbers and it would be good to know what is going on. I spoke with two vendors who said they thought attendance had been dropping since the shoot went to a Thurs- Sat schedule. Your thoughts and observations?
Harold his gator and Edgar's tracks in the field. On Thursday it was like driving and walking on a wet sponge.
Dean Romig
06-06-2017, 04:22 PM
The rest of the field was a minefield of soft, deep wet spots and by Saturday evening held all the scars of traffic travelling in every direction across it.
Unfortunately Ernie leases that field for his shooting events and is probably responsible for rolling it flat again.

A Ford Excursion weighs just shy of 6800lbs, but add 60 cans and 24 bottles of beer, three coolers, camping gear and I'm confident we were over 7000lbs.
Even with an aggressive all terrain tire, we just slowed to a stop. Down where Eric's truck was parked, someone put the pedal to the floor getting out, and it looked like two gunnite cannons, totally coating three cars behind him. The entire row along the stone wall was deeply rutted.

Wow, that makes a lot of sense. Good thing I traded that DH 2 frame in on that 0 frame DHE. However, since I was the grill man and only got the last two ribs, I think we decided 10 racks wasn't enough. Also, I won't need three flats of ammo if I only shoot two rounds.

"...60 cans and 24 bottles of beer..."
That quantity was the result of my underestimating that PGCA (mostly) members are a pretty sedate lot; I think that we brought home 2/3 of all that beer. Next year it'll be more ribs and less brew.
I also did manage to shoot four rounds and one at the five stand but at 3/4 oz, I only left about 11 # of shot at Ernie's. The Excursion strolled right out of the field on Saturday afternoon.

The gentleman who owns the parking field is Paul, he always stops over to see me when I camp. He didn't seem upset about the field when I talked to him on Sat. I too, thought the numbers were a little down, but hard to say for sure. Thanks Pete for posting the picture of me and my gator, it sure helped out with the plantar fasciitis of my right heel, will definitely plan on bringing it next year.
Brett, good to meet you, we only live a half hour apart

I abstained on your beer expecting the bourbon to be brought out somewhat discreetly... (Else that would have gone to someone with a 16 oz. tumbler much like the first batch of ribs went) but it must have been brought out well after dark.
