Well I took the plunge on mailing a set of barrels off today. When I lived down in the Houston area I had Freer gun shop reblue a set of barrels for my old Parker VH 32".

But I had always been a little hesitant about mailing a gun off. Well I guess gunbroker work buying and dealing with my friend of the Left Coast has lessened my anxiety about it.

I sent the 12 gauge set of my 2 barrel DH off to Mr. Bachedler to get them refinished. It was just a shame with a gun with good case colors and beautiful wood to have damascus barrels with a very faded pattern and some discoloration to them, so off they went. I love the gun, and will love it more when the pattern is better!

As am I, you can get an idea of the barrels in my album, but I will definitely post a before and after when I get them back.

I am sure I will eventually send the 10s off as well, but they didn't need it as bad as the 12s.

I've had several sets of Damascus barrels redone by Brad, you won't be disappointed with the results!

Huh?

Mr. Murphy I am a little anxious about them not being lost during transport :) Not a serious concern, but it is there.

There was a story locally a week ago where a set of grandparents were awaiting a christmas gift they ordered, for their grandchild, to arrive via UPS.
The driver showed up and delivered the package they were waiting for, they were surprised to open it and find a rifle and ammunition inside. Not whatever it was they ordered for theor grandchild.

Merry Christmas.

Got to love UPS. Today, I sent out two 12x12x12" boxes; both 11 pounds. One went to New Orleans, $21 and guaranteed by Friday. The other went to Kodiak, Alaska. She said it would be $91, delivered by Friday, or for $3 more, by air and delivered Wednesday.

I guess there really IS something to that "contiguous United States" disclaimer....

I find that shipments usually end up showing up sooner. So you pay extra to get it there the same time a lower price would have. Sounds like a deal!

Or damage. I sent a set of barrels off once used PVC pipe to send them in. On the way back to me the pipe was broken clear into. The amazing thing was they were not damaged. I wonder what they would of looked like if they would of been in a cardboard box. I bought a gun from Robin it came in a box he built from wood, wise fellow. ch

Most any service to Kodiak gets there either late, or very late. Depends on the weather as they close the airport pretty regularly, and especially in winter. If it has to go by boat, from Homer to Kodiak, don't send a calendar as it will be obsolete when it gets there.

I have a couple of wooden boxes I made specifically for shipping barrels. One inch sides, and ends, and 1/4" Birch plywood for top and bottom. The screws are the very large head furniture screws with torx heads. They have been back and forth to Grand Rapids with nary a scratch.

Canadian customs pried and ripped the lid off such a box I sent to Chris because they couldn't be bothered to find the correct (tiny) Torx bit.
No damage done to the contents however.

I talked to Brad's son Parker yesterday about doing a set of barrels. He said to touch base with them after the first of the year. I'm up in the air about doing them BUT they do look like chrome tubes on a CHE 20. According to TPS they made eight with 26 inch Damascus barrels. I can drive the barrels to Brads which is a good thing:)

I've had it in Channing each October. I took a bad fall a couple of years ago with it fortunately no damage to the gun my arm wasn't as lucky.

I've had about five sets of barrels done by Brad - I'm sure you will be happy. Like Rich, I can just drive over there in about two hours. He has three guns of mine right now but figure they won't be done for another month or two.
