I was buying .223 bullets from a guy today and he had an unopened 4# square tin of SR7625 that he sold me for $18/# !! He'd had it for many years so did fine at that price. I was elated and certainly didn't dicker. I don't know how/when I'm going to be able to get it to Alaska but I will somehow.

You never know what you will find at a gun show. Went to a local VFW "gun" show yesterday after church to see what was there. There were only four tables with guns. Very few guns. But I spotted some MEC loaders. Two 25 lb. bags of number eights also. Anyway, the shot is $55 plus so I came home with a 20 and a 12 MEC 9000N, both in new shape with 200 primers and the $110 worth of shot for as well as the MEC covers for $260! He had a MEC 650 that needed a few small parts with an old MEC Case Conditioner for another $30. I could not leave it there by itself. My $7 to attend was well worth it.

If you use the 9000Ns and set them up you will know what I mean when I say about one bag of the shot is on my basement floor's rug now.

Just last week while packing for a trip I found an 8lb jug of Clays and a 5lb. tin of 4756 that I had somehow hidden from myself in plain sight. I had switched over to 20/28 for my 20 ga. loads and had forgotten how good the 4756 was for the 20. Guess I'm good for a while.

I really like the older 650's with all metal parts. Of my five MEC presses none comes close to the smoothness of the old 650 that a friend gave me.

This one has the old primer feed that has a wire spring that dispenses one primer at a time from the tube but was missing the tray. I called MEC and they wanted $76 plus shipping for the tray! More than I wanted to pay but the tube will hold ten primers dropped in one by one. And it does not screw up like the new primer feeds with the chain and spring. Of all the things that will drive you crazy with a MEC is getting the primers to feed correctly without hanging up. Frustrating to say the least for me.

Paul's right Jerry. I have two old ones and one new one. Just when I think things are ticking along, they stop feeding. I use Paul's suggested method more often than not.

Sometimes more moving parts is not a good thing.

I tried it over and over with Winchester 209s. The tube holds nine, and without the tray and dropped in the tube by hand, it drops all nine flawlessly. It is unlike the new ones with the spring and chain that makes one cuss all the time. Hit the new style or bend it and it never works right again.

The old model has a piece of spring steel wire that when it contacts the base it lets one down and springs back to stop the second one. Why they thought they had to improve it I can't figure out.

The new 200 tray works pretty much flawlessly, but even the old 100 tray can usually work pretty good. I've had good luck with them, but two friends both load by hand. They don't mind the extra time and claim there's less cussen.

For you 'old' guys, several years ago I picked up a big (5#?) unopened can of AL5. As a kid it was my favorite powder for duck loads in the 12 ga. Now I use it mostly for pistol loads. I will be sad when it is finally gone.

I have retrofitted both of my 9000g's to the new 200 capacity push feed primer system. While it takes a bit to get it adjusted properly, they have both performed well since then. I fairly often clean the tray and apply furniture polish to ensure a smooth flow of primers to the push ram.

I never did get the old chain and sweep arm to work reliably and cuss I did. Not any more.

I find the 'chain and sweep arm' to be the biggest pain. It quits when the tray is down to the last 10-15 primers.

While I own five MEC Reloaders, and use them all regularly, I still believe that a fellow named Rube Goldberg would gladly endorse the design of any one of them...

I came across an 8LBS container of SR 4759 last week. I am not sure what i am going to use it in. But I couldn't pass it up.

You have been blessed by fate! That stuff is wonderful for reduced cast bullet loads in rifles. Especially older cartridges like the .45/70, .38-55, .32-40, etc. But it will amaze you in most any rifle/cast bullet load.

It seems like I remember a conversion factor for this powder like using a percentage of the Bp load. dose anyone remember one and what is the percentage.

You are thinking of Ross Seyfried's 4198-for-Black powder formula. DON"T use this with 4759. There are plenty of good cast bullet loads available for 4759 from various sites on the net.

But sadly, it is still a discontinued powder.

I am familiar with Seyfried's formula and this was something different but I just cant place it. I guess I am getting old.
