What did you add to your Parker Collection in 2016?? I ask this question every year. I added two and sold none. How about you?. A nice 16ga hammerless GHE 30" F/F serial number 150714, the perfect upland gun for me built on a #1 frame 6lbs 14 oz. It made the trip to SD for a great pheasant hunting adventure. Not a closet queen but a nice original hunting gun, headed to AZ for a Mearns quail hunt in Jan.
Also added an original D grade top lever hammer gun shipped to A.H. Worrest ( inventor of the Invincible Single Trigger) in 1901 12ga 30". Nice ball grip.
I had a PH in nice condition for sale but fortunately it didn't attract any buyers so I decided to keep it. Vintage shotguns are a sickness.:)

not sure if projects qualify as collections
i did pick up a 1 of 16 (according to TPS) 10 ga 28" barreled D hammer gun in a repro case, well used but interesting (unless you are standing next to it under the 5 stand roof at Hausmans from what I am told :rotf: )
http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture.php?albumid=673&pictureid=7948
Projects -
a VH 12ga 32" 3 frame - three breaks in the stock's wrist made a good project- once the checkering is redone it should be quite presentable -it even made the home page photo
http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture.php?albumid=576&pictureid=8517
and a Grade two 10ga hammer 3 frame 32" that was in rough shape but cleaned up leaving lots of case color under what was lots of rust, and the stock damage was repaired - needs an after pic in the album
http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture.php?albumid=696&pictureid=8165
and - a Parker grinder http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture.php?albumid=684&pictureid=8041
did let a 10ga hammer gun go

I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to add a pristine 12ga GH #64749 mfg. 1891. This piece could not have been used much at all. Not a mark anywhere, 30" F&F Damascus. Pattern is very close to 80 to 90% and the bores are like mirrors. Sorry my little camera did not come through with pictures worth posting.
Tom
P.S. The 12GA hammer Grade#1 in my avatar was also acquired this year. Mfg. 1884, 32" IC in the right side and mod. in the left.

This has been such a whirlwind of a year I'm not sure how many I have bought (between two and four) and I think I sold a couple of guns. I'm very happy with my purchases and not entirely sad to see the others go.
I have several project guns and I've made a promise to my self that I would try not to buy any more until the current projects are completed.... but it may be a hard promise to keep...:knowbetter:
Top picture is "after" Chris Dawe did his magic on a fabulous stock & forend from one of my hammer gun projects.
Bottom picture is a wonderful 16 gauge lifter..... the only one made with 27" barrels. Oh, did I mention the barrels are Parker-made Laminated Steel?

I sold my GHE 28 and got a check for what I paid for it, plus a 2 barrel 28ga repro. Spent the cash on slate and copper work on the roof. I love old houses.
Bought a 24" DHE 20 back in the spring that turned out to be a great grouse gun, and traded a 30" CH 12ga, plus a bit of cash for a 30" DHE20. Straight stock and killer wood.
To be fair, I bought my wife a 68" snow blower for her tractor.

Not much in the way of Parkers. Gary's BHE 32inch straight grip 20 came my way. I added lots of rifles however and a Fox:)
I am getting a fast start on 2017 however with a small bore hammer gun in the works.

Kind of a slow year in '16.
Only bought two. A DHE-12 which needs some attention for a couple of issues and a first year VH-12 which was sent back to Meriden when it was a year old to have the original Vulcan barrels replaced with a Damascus set.
I'm like some of the other guy's in that I have five Parkers & a Damascus barreled Model 97 Winchester out for work or restoration right now. I'm saving my gun money for when I get the calls on these projects. But I do watch the market daily, so you never know what 2017 will hold.:shock:

Wow, thinking back, I don't believe I bought a gun in 2016--I'll try to make up for that in 2017. I did start shooting a 20 ga hammer gun, and am leaning towards getting another hammer gun--get a lot of looks when shooting with the guys with their K guns, Perrazzis, and semi-autos locally. May need to make room by selling a couple Durston Special 20 Lefevers, a neglected Fox A 20, and a Grade 3 Ithaca 12 w/ chainlink Damascus.
My GH16 O frame has become my go to pheasant gun, and VHE 20 is my grouse favorite gun, so I'll probably stick with looking for another Parker

I did end up with a 12 gauge GHE vent rib Damascus gun. Not a 16, but a nice gun anyhow. The big acquisition is a high condition Whitworth barrelled Purdey hammer pigeon gun. It is a full house round action pigeon gun with 1 1/4 ounce proof, 2 3/4" chambers, side clips, third fastener, and uncut original wood. It is a bar in iron gun, one of the last hammer guns before the present reintroduction. Not a Parker, but a nice find.

Well I did end up with a PH 20ga 1 1/2 frame twist barrel, not sure if I want to restore (it's all ready been played with) or not, it does swing nice... But the major setbacks in the bank account came from a few from across the pond, a pair of 28 gauges, and a 16. I only bought one Parker this year, MY FIRST!! It is a DHe with a straight stock and damascus barrels. I haven't used it as it went off to Brad Bachelder to have the ejectors fixed, then off to my Remington man, Terry Deem to have the barrels worked on. Still has to make it to Chris Dawe for stock work. Maybe by fall 2017 I might have the opportunity to fire my first shot from it.

The C Bernard 16 ga shown previously in this thread is one of three known existent and is the only known 0 frame one. It is a nice and significant gun.
Several 20 gauge Bernards were made and one 28 gauge but none are presently known. The 28ga is a 30 incher. I've been looking for many years.
Who knows, there may be a few of these tucked away in private collections where owners let no one know, or back in closets where their significance is unknown.
One of the few known other small bore Bernards:

This is the 20 ga. DHE I traded my 30" 2 frame CH for. It has clearly seen a lot of use, as evidenced by the minimal remaining checkering on the buttstock, and perhaps less than 50% finish on the barrels, but what I saw when presented with the possible trade, was one of the most beautiful pieces of wood on an early DHE.
When I can clear my bench of some case work, I'll get it apart and send the wood up to Mr. Globe Trotting Dawe.

My Parker acquisition this year was a VH, 16Ga, frame #1, 30" barrels, all original to the Parker letter I received. Barrels had little blueing at spots, and a couple of dents, the plastic butt-plate was broken and missing a piece. I sent the gun to Brad Bachelder for a clean & strip, dent removal and barrel re-blueing, butt-plate replacement with an original - period correct (with widow's peak), and refreshment of the checkering. The color case is all original. I am very happy with the results. BillK

How soon we forget. One other Parker acquisition is a wonderful little Del Grego redone VH .410 restocked in nice fancy wood, beavertail forend hard butt. It looks like an early one judging by the colors. I believe it may be one done for our friend Shelly G. and was displayed at the first PGCA meeting in Nashville, many years ago. At that show, it was offered for a very negotiable $6995. I own Shelly's SAA trap gun and I just couldn't resist another gun owned by my old friend. I hope my inquiry to Babe DelGrego will prove me right.

I only added one but it was a good one! GH 6 frame 8ga w/36 inch full/full barrels. All original and quite nice condition. Retains some good case colors and the barrels have nice damascus finish left. 1911 production.

As far as Parkers go I picked up a 1 frame G grade 32" 12 gauge top lever hammer gun:
I was also lucky enough to stumble into a 10 gauge D grade lifter that I have been finding out about here on the forum:
Then I picked up a clean 2 frame 12 gauge 30" Trojan:
But, during a South Dakota pheasant hunt I let one of my friends shoot a 12 gauge 30" 2 frame DHE and that was a mistake. He insisted on taking it home. Hell I didn't even want to sell it.....:banghead:
Then I found a little 20 gauge Lefever A grade Model 6 skeet gun with 26" barrels to go along with the one I have with 28" barrels;
A Browning BSS with 30" SST for the pheasant fields in the Dakotas:
Somehow I was lucky enough to run across a EE Lefever with beautiful 30" Damascus barrels
And lastly for SxS's I found a 32" LC Smith Rochester Ordnance gun that just happened to be one of the 8 Wildfowl guns they sent over for the guys to learn how to shoot planes in WW2.
Nothing fancy, but some real fun stuff.

Great little gun John. I can see my neighbors house from my den, and he has a PH 20 with steel barrels that he has had since he was a kid, and he is over 80 now. Cant get him to sell it to me, but I casually bring it up every time I see him. Maybe one of these days.

Well lets see I sold a Krieghoff first year production K-32 as well as a very nice AH Fox A grade 16 gauge .
I bought a CZ550 FS 6.5x55 , a Mannlicher Schoenauer MCA Carbine in 270 WIN , a WW Greener F grade 10 gauge , Stag Arms AR-15 in 6.8 SPC , Bushmaster AR-15 in 450 Bushmaster , DPMS AR-10 in 308 , Alexander Arms AR-15 upper in 6.5 Grendel with a Rock River lower , built a AR-10 260 REM upper .Also bought a relatively inexpensive Howa 1500 Mini in 6.5 Grendel .
Seems the only Parker thing I bought this past year was a set of PH #3 frame 12 gauge 32" twist barrels with matching serial number forend .
Not much(number wise) on my want list a VH or GH 28 and an EH or NH 10 with factory UNCUT barrels 28" or less .

Well if were going to expand this to non Parker acquisitions then here goes.
Fox CE 32 inch 12 straight grip, Francotte 20E 20ga 26 inch IC/M and an already proven grouse gun.
Rifles- a custom 25-06 and a 275 Rigby both built on 1909 Argentine Mauser actions.
Pre64 M70's- 257 Roberts (2), 300 Savage, 7MM STD & carbine, 35 Remington, 300 H&H and a 220 swift both super grades, 220 swift and a 243 both varmint rifles, a couple of 270's, 250 Savage.
other rifles Cooper varmint in 220 swift and a Heym double rifle in 500 BPE.
I know I'm missing something but I just can't place it. I'm glad my wife doesn't look at this:rotf:

Pre64 M70's-220 swift and a 243 both varmint rifles.:
A few years back I had the pair of Pre 64 Model 70 Varmints . I killed a veritable pile of groundhogs with those two rifles . The 243 I had was a 1956 and the Swift a 1960 . Both had stainless barrels I might add .

Both of the Winchester varmint rifles are tack drives and give the Cooper's a run for their money. Both are from the mid 50's as well.
I did forget to mention the Ruger #1 450-400 3" NE.
Somewhere along the line there is a W.R. Papa 28ga hammer gun but I don't recall if it was last year or the year before. I do know I bought it at the Great Northern shoot in WI. Damn I'm hopeless :rotf:

I've been busy catching up on the days of my youth. Half my lifetime ago life got in my way. Duty called and I hung up my competitive rifle and pistol shooting when I became an officer in the Marines. At the time I was Distinguished with the Service Rifle and had earned 22 of the required 30 points to become a Distinguished Pistol Shot. Heck I was a rifle shooter and shot pistol to prove that anyone could do it. There was of course a rivalry between the USMC Rifle and Pistol Teams. The year was 1988.
In the spring 2015 a Les Baer National Match followed me home and I shot and shot and shot into 150 yards of topsoil serving as a berm in my back field. At the 2015 National Matches at Camp Perry I was close to placing but no cigar for me. It wasn't the Baer's fault but it was to become my backup gun.
On Perry's famous Commercial Row I ordered an Accuracy X Pro Plus 1911. It was July 2015. These target pistols are guaranteed 2" of smaller group guns at 50 yards. The 10 ring for the National Match Course is 3 & 1/4" with slow fire shot at 50 yards after timed and rapid fire strings at the 25 yard line. Steve Huff of Accuracy X hand fits the CNC match grade parts for these guns. Also, Steve can flat out shoot rifle and pistol being the only 6-Discipline Distinguished shooter ever. Steve knows target guns like many of you know Parkers.
My Accuracy X arrived late May 2016, about six weeks before the Nationals. By Perry I had logged in over 1800 rounds through this gun and my scores reflected it. For the National Trophy Individual I didn't win the match but I placed Third Gold with 277-3X (out of 300), just below a USMC Pistol Team and a Army Marksmanship Unit shooters also striving to "go out" (Distinguished). I was in good company.
So to start in my non-Parkers, 150 yards of topsoil bought during 2015 and 16, a top of the line match 1911, and did I mention I needed special prescription shooting glasses so that I could focus on the front sight? Bullseye shooting was so much easier half my lifetime ago...

I will shoot the National Pistol Matches at Camp Perry in 2017. But at the 2016 Nationals, watching my fellow Marines, albeit so a few decades younger than me, shoot their match Service Rifles, my heart longed to one again return to the mastery of the art of long range shooting. Did I mention that Steve Huff of Accuracy X builds target and sporting rifles for Delta Force types?
While I really don't want to shoot "across the course" I had another thought. Oh, the course is the National Match Course for Service Rifle being 20 shots offhand at 200 yards, one string of standing to sitting rapid fire at 200, another string of standing to prone at 300, and 20 shots slow fire prone at 600 yards. That makes for a long day on my beat up body when one adds pulling butts. That's keeping score for other relays by being behind the 600 yard berm and pulling the 8' x 8' steel target frame down, scoring, and then pulling it up for the next shot. Fun 30 years ago but maybe not now.
My idea was to build a dual purpose long range gun. That's something competitive enough to make a good showing in 1000 yard matches that would also be light enough for antelope and other long range hunting. Leave it to Mr. Huff to pull it together!
Below is my new, paid for and in the mail, Accuracy X "X Series" 6.5 x 284 Norma with a 28" medium Palma contour barrel, Timney trigger, full aluminum bedded (sinfully ugly) stock, all build on the proprietary Accuracy X action.
For this tack driver I ordered for two scopes, Night Force 15-55 Competition, and for hunting a Night Force 5-20 SHV. On order are two LaRue Tactical Quick Detachable Scope Mounts. These will come off and go one the rifle again and remain within an MOA. The mount shown in the photo is not a LaRue and is much too high.
Steve Hoff of Accuracy X just sent the test target below shot with factory ammo. Hopefully I will be able to squeeze the group done a little.

the toe of the frizzen either rides on the flat of that V spring or on a "roller" - a bearing which makes the action a little smoother
in this example the roller is on the spring - it can be in the toe of the frizzen as well
http://www.hallowellco.com/flintlock-gordon-dickson-close-right.jpg
other wise a hard polished toe of the frizzen rides on the flat of the spring- also polished

Do you have any provenance information on your gun? I will share my provenance if you are interested. The last owner of my Midas was W.W. Wilson in Maryand, whose nephew or such, is a member of one of my gun clubs. He recognized the Browning letter information as well as the gun when I showed it to him. There is information on the original owner also. Tell me what you know about your guy.

Having just gotten into Parkers recently to add to my growing 'stable', I was fortunate to add three since mid-December: a VHE 20 with two sets of Vulcan barrels/forends (1907), a GH 16 with 28" Spec. Steel (1926) and a GH 12 with 30" Damascus (1907). Not a bad holiday season. Have hunted pheasant with the VHE in CT and took it to GA for quail. Very pleased so far.
