Anyone have any experience selling a Parker with these people? I am going to thin the herd a bit more and liked their ad in PP. "the most honest and trustworthy house in the gun auction business"

They are a half-hour up the road from my house David and seem to run a good auction but I have never bought or sold anything through them... although I have bid and lost on some of their offerings. I go there and spend an hour or two at the viewing just prior to each auction in which Parkers are involved.

I have both sold and bought there. I have come home with what I think are good values. My sales have brought home more and less than expected. It's an auction.....
For a comparison, when I was last there the number of people that attend is considerably larger than the ones I have been in at a James Julia's Auctions but I suspect the amount of dollars present in the room is considerably less that at Julia's.
My only complaint with them is the same one I have with James Julia auctions: they don't call fair warning before hammering a sale, nor do they announce items being in reserve (if there are any at all).
I'm not sure this helps you at all. I would say that they are in business and do a good job but like all businesses there will be happy and unhappy customers.

Hello David,
I have looked at their Parkers as a buyer a few times and just found out today that I won one from their recent auction 2 weeks ago(my first bid with them). They had a few nice Parkers for sale and the hammer prices are now posted which may help you. While I didn’t buy anything all that special, if the gun is close to as it was described I will be happy. I think I paid a fair price(for both buyer and seller) though I bid sight unseen and hope the pictures and description were accurate.
I’ll pick up the gun next Friday and follow up.
Good luck with your decision,
Jay

I was there Jay and examined all the Parkers. Which one did you buy, if you don't mind saying?

Dean, I bought the Grade 2(or equivalent for the year) lifter 12 gauge Serial#3492. Straight stock with what looks like nice wood, damascus barrels with clean bores and described as having a slight play in the action. I couldn't tell from the picture but I believe it would have the "pin" the comes up when the action is open. I really like the early lifters and bid accordingly. Did you see it?

and just found out today that I won one from their recent auction 2 weeks ago
Same thing happened to me with Amoskeag. It was a while back, but I submitted a written bid the eveniong before the auction. The fine print stated that the bids must be in by 8pm, and I had sent it in around 10:30. The next day, I saw that it went for less than my bid, and I waited several days, and had no word from them, so presumed they did not accept my late bid.
I was weighing that piece with another on GB, so went ahead and bought the GB gun. 17 days later I got an invoice from Amoskeag. It didn't brake the bank but I didn't need to buy two identical guns.
To add insult to this, they have never sent me a catalog. Every other firm where I did bid successfully has sent me a catalog. Little details like that turn me off from future business. If they have something I can't live without, not likely at this stage in my life, I'll either ride up there or phone bid.

Edgar, Same with me...I had no idea I won until yesterday. I had submitted a plus one bid and figured someone had outbid me. I thought I would have received an email(since they ask for it) and I submitted my bid through email. From the sellers perspective all that might not matter, other than it might not attract as many buyers if the after auction response time/notification is an issue.
I am hoping the rest of the transaction goes well and I like the gun. Dean's comment certainly made me feel better.
If the rest goes well I'll likely bid with them again, I would just follow up after the auction by phone if there was a chance I might have won.

David:
I have known the Devine family personally for many, many, years going back to when Jason was just a kid.
Amoskeag Auctions is owned by Jason and Melisa Devine located in one of the old mill buildings in Manchester ,NH . Their integrity is of the highest standards . They have been in existence , I would say , some 15 years+/-, and have come a long ways from day one.
If I were you , I would call Jason and speak to him personally. If you would like ,I will introduce you to Jason---give me a call @ 802-885-1152.

I have purchased SXSs and old Winchesters from all three of the major houses, and have not had a bad experience. Perhaps I have just been lucky. I usually bid by phone, so I know in real time if I won the item.
As for selling, I have only one auction house experience and used James Julia, as it was a high value gun. JJ did an excellent job with descriptions and photographs.
One important question to ask is how much the house charges the seller. JJ waves the seller's cost if the item goes for at least $20,000. I am not sure if they will do the same if you have more than one gun at an auction that totals over 20K.
One thing, however, is for sure-it is usually a lot easier to buy a gun than is to sell one...

Jay... 3492 was high on my list at that auction. I thought it was a good example of a lifter with a retrofitted W.F.Parker patent bolt and bite modification (TPS pg96). I also thought it was worth more than high estimate, so I threw in an overbid. The absentee bidder was more aggressive, so I ducked! Wish I knew then what I know now! I did however bring home a pretty descent VH12 on a 1-1/2 frame.
I have attended nearly every Amoskeag auction held this century, and found them very honest and professional in my dealings, buying and selling.
