As always, count me in. It's always a great time and a terrific show & tell of Parkers. We often see more nice Parkers at Major Waldron's than on Steve Barnett's tables at Ernie's.

I'm 99% sure I can make it up again this year and will bring a pot of venison stew for the occasion. I'm also working on getting the Ol Pollock to ride shotgun with me if you'll allow two flatlanders in state at the same time.:)

Scott and Pete
Our rental in Vermont ends on New Year's Eve this time so I'm trying to avoid going all the way back to Connecticut. Are the lodgings in Kittery close by to Waldrons?
I'm sure my wife would like to shop Kittery on New Year's Eve.
Robin Lewis

George,
There are several nice hotels in Portsmouth, NH and its not far to drive over there from the shoot; about 20 miles. Kittery shopping is about 5 minutes north of Portsmouth.

If one is so inclined check Expedia.com, there are 4 hotels around Exit 9 Spaulding Turnpike in Dover which would be about 8 miles from Major Waldrons.

The good lord, weather and my wife willing I will be at the New Year's Day shoot at Major Waldron's in Southern Sunny New Hampshire.
I will bring some raffle tickets with me so bring your checkbooks.
The checks should be payable to Parker Gun Foundation.
There are only 200 to be sold.

I checked the advanced weather and it looks like partly sunny and a balmy 41 degrees for New Years day in Barrington NH. You can't ask for a better day for January in the northeast. I set aside a few pounds of meat from yesterdays harvest and Deb will be starting the stew tomorrow. Look forward to shooting with everyone at Major Waldron's.

Afraid I'm going to have to miss this shoot. My 8 mos old English setter, Sophie, is in full blown heat. My outdoor kennel isn't heated and I would prefer not to leave her in the house alone (when there's no one around to let her out to do her biz) for that length of time.
Dean Romig

Well I guess that's a pretty good reason Allen.
See you next time.

Sophie is quite special. I've had her at Markover on three occasions and she has performed flawlessly. Hunts close, doesn't range wide, quarters on command, points like a fool and retrieves to hand. She's located and pointed all the birds put out and then some. Her retrieving to hand is natural and is without any training from me. She's unbelievable and I'm looking forward to working her next season on woodcock and grouse in Maine. The two guides at Markover that we've used are just blown away at how natural she hunts. I'll miss this shoot for sure

Sophie's wagging her tail so I guess that means we'll attend. Besides bringing along a 20 ga Parker I wish to sell, is there anything else I can bring? Food stuff?
By the way, what events are we shooting? Trap? Skeet? Five stand? All?

I've been going through some pictures and getting ready for the onslaught of contributions for Parker Pages and I came across a folder with pics of the 2011 New Year's Day shoot.
Austin came down that day... There were a bunch of Parkers and two or three 'off brands' as well.
These New Year's Day shoots are each just a bit different from past ones and that's what makes them so much darn fun!!
.
Frank Cronin
12-29-2016, 04:30 PM
That was the first time I met Austin. We were shooting skeet and he was using his hammer gun. He called for a double on station eight -- low house and high. He shot low gun with the buttstock next to the hip, called pull, cocked both hammers before bringing it to his shoulder and dusted both birds. I was like OMG!!
This is my one of my favorites. Bob Weeman touching one off on the big five frame. I think this was the year after when it was in the 70's and you could hear the exhaust of Harleys riding by.
See you all in a few days.
John Dallas

I'm going to bring a box of Joe from Dunkin Donuts for the AM.
FYI For sale I have a box of 5000 Clay Buster wads CB1118-12 (Winchester WAA12) that has been taking up space in the garage. Deep discount and no shipping charge tacked on. $50 dollars takes it.
Also I have about 500 once fired Winchester AA red hulls. $20 bucks.
Let me know if you're interested before the shoot and I'll pack it in the car.

New Year 2017 at Major Waldron's is in the books! Thanks Pete and Scott for organizing this event. Nice to see the familiar faces and new ones today. There was lots of really nice Parkers to see, lots (LOTS) of good food and desert. Couldn't ask for a better day weather wise too.
Next stop in New England is the Parker Fun Shoot 2017 at Addieville, RI.

The Annual New Year's Day Shoot has always been a great event and an excellent way to help us relax after the Holidays and a great way to revisit with good friends and to enjoy lots of nice Parkers and other fine shotguns. One that comes immediately to mind was Frank's 20 gauge 30" Remington Model 17 pump gun - what a beauty and man, can Frank ever shoot that thing!
As long as Pete can continue to make this event happen I'll always be there!

My first at Major Waldron's. Nice day, great to be in the company of so many fine gents and Parkers. The guys with whom I regularly shoot are jealous. They shoot English doubles and none have a Parker. And they're coming to understand what they're missing out on. It was a very nice day and I look forward to our next venue.

I grew up shooting my grandfather's and my Dad's 16 ga. VH on grouse, woodcock and pheasants here in Massachusetts and just outside of Boston when there was no shortage of native birds. My uncles all shot Parkers, albeit high grades than the VH I was shooting. My brother and I were told constantly by my Dad and two uncles that Parkers were the best American made doubles by far. But this is as far as my knowledge went. They were great guns and you didn't need to shoot any other gun. Until I joined the PGCA, I never realized or even gave it a thought hat there was so much history and information to be learned about the Parker (or as we say here in New England, 'Parka'.) PGCA events such as the one we just had at Major Waldron's have allowed me another vehicle to not only make new friends and acquaintances but increase my knowledge of these fine old guns. I come away from these events and forums reflecting on how little I know and how far I must go to gain an increase in my knowledge base on Parkers. I most appreciate the times at these events when I can inquire and more than that just listen to the gents who know so much more about Parkers, their manufacture et al, So, I say, let's continue these events and bring in more youth to the PGCA community so we can insure these guns continue to be appreciated and treasured for years to come. They are indeed a part of America's history and sporting culture. Thanks again for yesterday's event at Major Waldron's. And thanks to the club for hosting us. Oh and I apologize for the length of this post. I'm just in a sentimental mood right now and felt the emotional urge to communicate with you all.
Kevin McCormack

Most eloquently put, Allen. I wish a broader strata of our current crop of 'experts' had a similar degree of sensitivity, understanding and humility regarding knowledge of The Parker Gun. Happy New Year!
