Anyone know where I can find a Parker skeleton steel butt plate from a 12 gauge of D grade or higher?
Alternatively, any suggestions on where to send a Brownell's skeleton steel butt plate for engraving at a reasonable price?

I looked up the serial number and it's a D Grade.

Thanks for the tip. I have a question in to the seller regarding its dimensions. Its listed as being from a 10 gauge, so it may be too big for my needs. I was quoted $1250 for some modest border and screw head engraving on a new skeleton butt plate. Is that as exhorbitant as it sounds to me, or is that just what a little good quality engraving costs these days?

Seems about twice what it should be. Of course there are engravers who are very well known and are true artists and for their work we might expect to pay a premium for the reputation of the name. Just one guy's opinion...

Can anyone tell me the length and width dimensions of an original Parker skeleton steel butt plate corresponding to a #1 frame size? (My DHE #2's skeleton butt measures 5 1/2" x about 1 3/4".)

One of our members posted that he is makeing the SSBP. You could look in the archives for the contact information. Someone here might remember the gentelmans name.

Good engraveing doesn't come cheap and inaccurate work lasts a lot longer than the memory of what it cost. I had Goffery Gornet engrave a trigger guard as part of a project. His fee was figured into the total cost and I didn't even ask what it was because it would be done right and it was.

google "fewless skeleton buttplate" and you will get pictures and forum discussions about Glenn's buttplate project. Ken Hurst restored and engraved the skeleton buttplate on my 34" DH pigeon gun. It is a maximum effort on a buttplate that anyone would have given up on, but Ken took it on and succeeded.

Width is taken at the widest location and the length is taken off the line of the top of the stock which is closer to the point end of the spur to the heel.

#1 frame hammer 12: Length 5 3/16" , Width 1 7/8"
#3 frame hammerless 10: Length 5 3/4", Width 1 15/16"

Can anyone tell me the length and width dimensions of an original Parker skeleton steel butt plate corresponding to a #1 frame size? (My DHE #2's skeleton butt measures 5 1/2" x about 1 3/4".)

Justin, did you get the buttplate or was it too big for your gun?

Ken Hurst will do a good job engraving your buttplate, he's reasonable too.

Ken Hurst restored and engraved the buttplate on the "Gold Hearts" gun. This buttplate is pictured in a PP article on the gun. This buttplate was a rusted and pitted mess when Ken received it.
