Just pulled couple boxes reloads from shelf: 12ga 700-X pressure 7600/1145fps; 16ga Longshot pressure 7000/1175fps. Also 12ga 1 1/4 oz Longshot 6900/1185fps. I wouldn't use these reloads if I wasn't pleased with results!

Clay dot with the 3/4 ounce claybuster wad comes in around 6000 psi, but it doesn't smell nearly as nice as 7625 or 700x, especially in Federal papers.

PB, 7625 and 4756 are/were single-base straight nitrocellulose powders and imo there are no substitutes for their desirable combination of relatively low pressure @ relatively high velocity, and with a slower recoil impulse @ the same velocity and with the same shot load than double-base powders that contain NG. There's more to it than burning rate. Also, so-called low pressure loads often equate to low velocity which is OK on a clays course but all too often means cripples when hunting. Personally I look for at least 1225 fps for hunting, and 1250 or more is better and I'll load one of the named single-base powders for hunting with vintage SXS's that are up to snuff.

It seems that 4756 and 7625 went out of vogue with modern reloaders and can still be found in out of the way gun stores where the jugs are often gathering dust. I understand that PB is still made, although tough to find.

I got to thinking about low pressure and pulled out my paperwork on loads I've had tested. 15 grains of 700x. Under 3/4 oz shot. A 5 shot string tested avg. 4992 psi. @ 1182 fps. Not bad. You could always go up a little on the powder I guess. Lol I'm new at this . I hadn't been able to try it yet. As its summer in Texas and I been very busy. Hope this helps.

Gents, thanks for your feedback. I'd stocked up on PB and 7625 when they were going out of production and have some 4756 for heavies. I'll routine stop a small gun shops here and there while on my travels to check for more. Last I looked at the Hodgdon's website, several months ago, PB was still listed but 7625 and 4756 were absent. I checked again today and PB is gone also. I haven't looked at other shotgun powders on the market to search for single-base alternates but when I do that I'll post here.

There are a great number of recipes on Alliant's web site. The one I use in all three of my 12ga. Parkers, two of which are Damascus Barrels, is
Remington Nitro hull
Remington 209 primer
17.5 grains of Clay Dot
CB4100-12b wad
7/8 ounce of 7.5 shot
1200 f.p.s.
5400 p.s.i.
The bushing in my Ponsness Warren drops 17.2 grains and the loads crush clays consistently. The recoil is also very acceptable.

For low pressure I've used Unique, 700X, Promo, Red Dot, American Select, and Green Dot to name a few. There are lots of powders out there for low pressure. Today it's more what you can get, not so much what you like.
