Ran into this today....

Anyone have an idea of what it is or value?

12 ga, 30 inch barrels. Cased. Barrels have pitting.

Thanks in advance.

It's a bar in wood Westley Richards with the 1865? patent top lever single bite locking system. At one time, you could get your year of manufacture on the WR website. My WR of that model is a 34" eight gauge. I bought it the month I got out of the Army in 1969. Many of these guns were made as pinfires and later converted very professionally to central fire.

THANKS BILL.

Any idea on value...barrels are pretty rough inside but gun looks original and with what looks like original case.

I really have no idea of value. If it is nice and tight at the breech and has no wood damage, it should be safe to shoot. I shoot mine occasionally. My case was badly deteriorated so I had Kevin McCormack build me a wonderful new case from a new Brady shell that was the identical size of the original.

James,

There are 3 or 4 of them listed on guns international. Prices range from $1500 to $3500. The one you are looking has more engraving than those listed.

Contact Charles Pfleger at Hill Rod and Gun in Bozeman. He does a lot of gunsmithing for the Westley Richards shop.
