Does anyone have disassembly tips for a typical greener crossbolt type action? I have a German gun that is very tight, yet when closed the crossbolt is loose- if you turn the gun on its side it will mve about a 16th of an inch. This gun is not off face or loose at all - it's very tight.

Seems like when the lever is closed its not actually putting any pressure on the cross bolt. I know the Greener cross boot is of dubious value in regards to the lock up but I would like it to be tight.

The primary bolting on these guns is done with the underbites. The cross bolt is simply a "failsafe" and does not really do any sort of bolting when speaking of making sure a gun is tight.
The cross bolt cams on the top lever. Removal of it requires disassembly of the whole bolting system pretty much.
It is odd that it has some slack in it. You would not think here to be that much wear on that area. If it were to be repaired, it would likely need metal added and re-fitted, unless there is serious damage done to the part.

Without taking the gun to bits, it is difficult to say for sure what the problem is. However, many of these top bolts work against a V-spring that also tensions the top lever. It may well be broken.

The fix should not be too costly. But, you should take the gun to a qualified double gunsmith. And you won't find him at the local Gander Mountain. In CT, I recommend you contact Galazan's.

Thanks. Was hoping for some tips on dissasembly. I can handle minor repair myself. No issues striping a Parker thanks to Brian's great intrsuctions. Just never had a greener type gun apart. If this was a really fine valuable gun I would most likely Send it out. However, these German guns , as much as I like them, aren't worth much, no matter how finely they are made. If I can't fix it I'll probably just shoot it as is.

Got it apart, wasn't too difficult. The tang that actuates the bolt is just a bit worn. Will weld it and refit it.
