From the Dodge City Cattle Call 1879

After the latest bunch of Texas cowboys and their tick ridden beeves blew into town unrest followed in the previously peaceful streets. Gunshots at the Long Branch , fistfights at Pelosi's Bawdy House and a generally unruly situation. It culminated when one of the drunken cow hands shot through Alderman Paul's window at 2 am . Calling an emergency meeting of the town council, a new ordinance was passed unanimously. I've had enough of this nonsense Paul was heard to exclaim.

That afternoon Marshall Wyatt Clinton and Deputy Doc Bama were busy erecting new signs at the town boundary. As the cowhands were sobering up and getting released from the hoosegow, one particularly hung over chap muttered "we'll see about this no gun law as soon as I ride home to Bug Scuffle , Texas", not realizing he had shot his horse the previous night while mistaking it for Quannah Parker. "I'm going to write President Bigtalk just as soon as I can find somebody who can write . These fools must all be dimocrats ."

Dodge city has changed some since then. I go thru there from time to time, I would doubt anything in this old pic still exists.

Front Street and Wyatt Earp Blvd are paved now and the Dairy Queen on Earp sells pup cups to my bird dogs.

A few years ago some Mexican drug gangs were shooting it out in the streets but a friend was instrumental in getting them to prison and deportation. It's peaceful again.

well,

understandable

after all, the 1873 SAA Colt was in fact a military grade weapon

They are. Fully original Colt factory engraving and grips.

When loaded to its full designed loads for an SAA, the .45 Colt is extremely potent.

Bruce is being modest. It was he who ran the drug gangs out of Dodge.

Bruce Day; Yup. All you needed then. All you need now.
I'm in charge of deciding what I need, not you.
BTW, I have an 1898 SAA in .45 Colt. It is a nice old gun, but definitely NOT what I would respond to an armed intruder with.

Thanks Bill but I really had no part in it. But in my fantasies I can singlehandedly wipe out crazied druggies who storm my house to steal my bottle of aspirin or take out my machine gun and more mowing down of a small army of invading ISIS savages , all singlehandedly of course. But then I look out and it's pretty peaceful here.

I went to CVS to look for some "Prickty Ash Bitters" I wanted to try some, but they didn't have any. Maybe because I'm in New Hampshire, I don't know. Does anyone know where I can get some:corn:

Steve, not knowing anything about that as well as many other matters, I looked it up.

It was a liver , kidneys and other internal organ medication to flush out impurities. So after a night in the cut and shoot bars on Front Street, after you sobered up you drank these bitters. Probably no use for it today.

Big Wonder. Is it "Kerfluffle" or "Kerfuffle

I'm all for using antiquated terminology. But part of the burden that comes with such is using it properly - both context and spelling - so as to preserve its integrity.

ker·fuf·fle
kərˈfəfəl/
noun: British informal
noun: kerfuffle; plural noun: kerfuffles

a commotion or fuss, especially one caused by conflicting views.
"there was a kerfuffle over the chairmanship"

Bruce: As you know my dad was born in Bug Scuffle Texas but no way one of my relatives could have drank so much let alone patronize a bawdy house.:whistle:

Thank God I spelled Bug Scuffle correctly!

But "Kerfuffle " , see for example Parker Shotgun Forum.

Didn't we have a Kerfuffle last October about wanting to stop at the place that advertised body waxes in Glendive, Montana ?

I came in for a lot of ribbing several years ago while on a Phez hunt in South Central SD. Seems there is a very small town named Dallas, SD which, for some reason at that time of the year is populated with a bunch of young things with a proclivity for removing their garments. Can't imagine why. It was cold out there.

Been there John. They bring those beauties in from Chicago for the pheasant hunters. Beauties is a stretch of the imagination.

Lots of beef in SoDak.

I flew with the RCAF at Cold Lake Alberta. That's way north. The one bar in town imported talent but they really put on weight for the winter.

Great article btw, but what's a "dimocrat"?
