I need to service the trip on one of my Top Lever Hammer Guns. Sometimes it holds, other times not, must be dirty or could be the spring.

Brian's Hammer Gun Disassembly instructions are for a Lifter. Seems to me sequence would be the same for a Top Lever until you get to photo # 12. Skip the lifter part details and with a T/L gun move on to trigger plate removal.

Brian,

Anything special I need to know about getting to the trip and spring ?

Bill, the trip pin and spring is readily accessible under the trigger plate assembly.

All done and she works good now. Lot of gunk in the Trip's hole. Spring was fine, no unusual wear to the trip itself.

Help you get on this site is great !!!

glad you got her fixed william...if the trip had been wore you can peen or rather hammer the trip and stretch the metal and it will work again for years..i did a top lever hammer 8 ga this way and it will hold the hammer back till the trigger is pulled even if you fire the other barrel first and it cocked back..but i did not have a shell in the barrel that was giving trouble...but would not be afraid too...charlie

Charlie I was thinking about what to do if the trip was worn. That's a good tip
