Parker checkering

I just finished checkering this Parker VH. Could I have some honest opinions on the quality of this checkering. The gun didn't have anything on it when I started. Thanks much, Jerry

It worked.

If I may be brutally honest... the mullered border is very nive but the checkering isn't cut quite deep enough. Your VH or GH checkering pattern is correct but is not cut quite deep enough. Flat topped is correct but not that flat.

Now.... why would you not cut the beavertail checkering to a standard Parker pattern??

The beavertail was from a gun that I made wood for a few months ago. Actually, that beavertail went to the wood stove and the correct splinter was made for that gun. Only two pictures are from the gun I just finished. Thanks for the advice on the depth of the checkering, much appreciated. Again, I knew it would be flat, all I had to go by was pictures. Thanks for your opinion, I value them, as I'm a finatic about detail. Jerry

Jerry, the mullered borders are fine, nice job. Here is an original 1915 V for comparision and you might see a few differences in the checkering cutter V angles. I've seen an article about Parker checkering , checking as Parker called it, which gave the cutter angles. I can't remember if it was Parker Pages or TPS, but you might check TPS. Sorry to not recall where it was.

Oh, by the time I got this posted, Dean had already responded. Jerry, let me know, if this is redundant, I'll just delete it or if more photos are helpful, let me know.

I think the V angles were 60 deg. vs. the newer 90 deg.

Thanks Ed, couldn't remember. So the originals were deeper cut, the angles gave a more pointed appearance. V's used 16 LPI. All this information is available in TPS, as well as detailed photos.
